Age: 23
Height: 5'8
Hometown: Olivine City, Johto
Orientation: BisexualPersonality: Life as Champion took a serious toll on Brendan. Though he kept on a brave face and a wide grin, the life it gave him was sad and lonely. As a result, making new relationships is hard, which is difficult since he craves attention. He needs to feel like he's accomplishing things with his life or he's likely to struggle to find reasons to get up in the morning. Brendan is always searching for new heights to reach.
Now that he's left the position behind, however, Brendan is a lot happier. He's managed to make friends and romance, people that genuinely care about who he is as a person. He's grown a little goofy, too, perhaps due to how serious his childhood was.
Most days, he's even excited again. He'll eagerly run around in the sunshine, buy some new clothes, or treat those he cares about. Brendan is happy again, and that's what really matters now.
Likes:
-The Ocean: Brendan grew up in Olivine and spent his teenage years in Hoenn. He loves surfing and swimming in the ocean. It's become difficult for the boy to get to sleep at night when he can't heat the sound of the waves.
-Peanut Butter: Brendan's favorite food. He could put it on almost anything and be happy.
-Challenges: Brendan still can't shake the need to rise up and better himself. Anything that can challenge him is welcome.
Dislikes:
-Cold. Brendan grew up in Olivine, but life in Hoenn has taken away his resistance to cold. He can't stand it or snow.
-Being interrupted. It's one of the quickest ways to annoy a Brendan.
-Slacking Champions: Brendan considers the role of Champion to be extremely important. He gave up almost everything in his life to live up to that standard. While he doesn't expect that extreme out of anyone, especially after what that did to his relationships, he still finds activity and class to be mandatory for an active Champion.
History:
Brendan's father, Norman, always wanted to be a Gym Leader. He trained hard and studied, dedicating his life to the pursuit of power. Life continued. He had a wife, moved into a home in Olivine City, and had a child.
Even as he settled into his life and role as husband and father, his dream never diminished. He went to college, learning everything he could about battling, training, strategy, and practical application. He met his future best friend in college, a young man studying to be a professor who just had a child of his own. The two grew close, educating each other on their own careers. To Norman, this was invaluable. Education was important, and he memorized everything the young Professor Birch offered to teach him.
And at night when he was back at home, he turned around and taught these things to his son. While other children were ready happy bedtime stories, he was being shown Pokemon types and stats. A passion for battling and winning was instilled in the boy.
Once Brendan grew old enough to read, he couldn't stop. He worked endlessly to memorize every last detail of his craft. He knew type advantages, evolutions, abilities, tms, gym leaders, elites, champions, professors, legends, and anything else he could get his hands on.
By the time Norman finally was granted the position of gym leader, Brendan was old enough to receive his first Pokemon, which he received from the same professor Norman knew from college. His journey began at the age of twelve, and his first Pokemon was a Torchic. Despite his relatively short time as a trainer, he easily outbattled everyone in his path. He caught a full team quickly and raised his team up, putting emphasis on his Torchic and Zigzagoon.
This was an educated decision. Zigzagoon had the ability Pick Up, helping him obtain items. It was also capable of using HMs like Cut, Strength, Surf, and Rock Smash, which would help him on his journey. To say that Brendan looked at his Pokemon more like tools of battle and not living, breathing friends for those first few days would not be inaccurate. He wore them ragged, never letting them faint but coming close to it.
Fortunately, Brendan's wake up call came very early in his journey. Before he had reached his first gym leader, he came across a boy named Wally. The boy wanted a Pokemon: not to fight or win, but just to have one as his friend. Brendan watched the boy carefully as they captured Wally's first Pokemon together. When they finally said their goodbyes, Brendan apologized to the Pokemon that had worked so hard for him and gave them a good rest.
Over the course of the next several months, Brendan captured many Pokemon. He formed a formidable team and battled against two criminal empires along the road to conquer each gym. Their friendship grew stronger, their strategies fell into place, and their victories accumulated. He defeated his own father and even awakened a legendary Pokemon, Rayquaza.
Not even the Elite Four could handle the boy. His dedication to his craft, his years of study, and the devotion he shared with his Pokemon took him to the seat of the Champion, and Brendan conquered.
Brendan took the position of Champion with mixed emotions. It was true, he had achieved the only thing he had ever dreamed of, but that was the problem. Brendan was still only twelve years old. It became clear to him that he had reached the high point of his life.
There were other challenges. He fought to get out of the shadow of Red, a boy in Kanto that had just beaten Brendan to the seat of Champion in his own region. He defeated the Frontier Brains. Still, challengers rose to face him and one by one he shut them all down.
Throughout it all, Brendan couldn't stop his brain. He was Champion, and he should act like it. He replaced the Champion Room with a large stage. Bleachers lined the sides for fans to attend. Cameras brought the battles to homes across all of Hoenn. Even showcasing his strategies and Pokemon on the television didn't pay him a challenger that could put him down. Brendan still outperformed everyone that dared to challenge him. He rarely left Ever Grande, either. His free time was spent on Victory Road, battling and defeating any wild Pokemon they came across to strengthen his Pokemon and sharpen his ability.
It was all so tiring. Brendan needed something else to do with his life. At the age of fifteen, he started to open up to people. He started dating and trying to make friends, only to realize that no one was interested in Brendan. His dates and partners and friends just saw him as the Champion. He couldn't keep a relationship of any sort going.
At the age of twenty-one, Brendan vacated his spot as Champion. It was relieving to leave the position behind, but he found he had no one to go back to. After all, Brendan was so dedicated to his role as Champion that he had barely even picked up the phone to call his old friends and his family. Perhaps he could make amends, but the truth was that Brendan was scared to face them. They were what he needed all along, and he had been too blind to see that. With a heavy heart, Brendan left Hoenn and his reputation behind.
