"Elli! Ell! E! Ell-ee!" you rolled your eyes and looked up as your friend, Lauren, sprinted towards you while calling your name multiple times. You casually ran a hand through your hair, and looked up at Lauren as she approached your desk - but the look on her face explained it all. Something had happened. You immediately pushed back from your desk, not caring at all as the chair you had previously been resting in clattered to the ground from your force. Grabbing your nurse's jacket, Lauren and you quickly proceeded into the hall, passing everyone grimly and tensely. You looked to Lauren as both of you entered the fancy high-speed elevator. Knowing this would probably be your only free time for a bit, you began your waterfall of questions as the door closed. "Who is it this time? Tony? Thor?" you blabbered to her as the elevator went up. "Neither." she replied gravely, and you stayed silent the rest of the way up.
The elevator doors opened with a small ding and the both of you stepped out swiftly, urgently making your way to the emergency room. Along the way, another friend of yours, Vee (short for Virginia, met up with you both and matched your pace. Vee handed you a file, and as the trio of you continued to walk quickly, you opened the file. "The victim's name is Pietro Maximoff. He's a speedster, which means he can run really fast. His injuries are fatal - he usually has an accelerated healing factor, but this time, his wounds were too severe." Vee explained, pushing open the large metal doors to the emergency room. You didn't need to ask what had happened.
There was a platinum haired man lying on a bed, gunshot wounds marking most of his blue clothed body. You gasped and immediately put two and two together. He had been shot - maybe about 50 - 80 times. It was a miracle he was still alive. You didn't ask anymore questions and quickly got to work dressing the wounds, while Vee and Lauren started gathering supplies to extract the bullets. Only when you finished a portion of your work, you looked up to see a brown haired woman watching you intently, fear contorted on her face. There was pain reflecting in her eyes as she stared at the man resting on the bed.
She looked up a few minutes later, and caught you watching her. A minute later, she was gone, only a red cloud in her place. Weird. If she was a villain, the "Avengers" would surely catch her.
Time Skip brought to you by Vee ribbon dancing with the bandages -;-
The surgery lasted 4 hours... each minute was spent with nervous breaths and sweating as your friends and you assisted the main doctor with extracting the bullets. Ten seconds, Clint says, ten seconds to get him in a position like this, and yet 4 hours of work to remove the bullets. Over the period of the surgery, the strange woman entered and exited the room as she pleased, but after a bit, no one seemed to pay much attention to her. Her name was Wanda Maximoff, you learned, and she was the twin sister to Pietro Maximoff, the victim currently being treated.
Soon, the surgery ended, you and the girls decided to go to the restroom and wash the blood of off your hands. As Vee and Lauren chatted amongst themselves, you watched the crimson liquid flow off of your hands and go down the drain. Taking a shaky breath, you stopped the water and grabbed a paper towel, eager to dry your hands and get the hell out of there. As you exited, you were stopped in the doorway by a colleague of yours, Bryan. He was always very nice to you, even though you tended to ignore him a lot. There was just something about him... that you found... false. But this time, you couldn't help but feel pitiful for the man. His eyes were red from crying and you wondered what had happened, but he answered the question before you could even ask what was happening. "She's gone, Elli. Helen.." his voice broke as he whispered the last part... "Helen Cho is dead.."
And you broke down in the hallway - for Helen Cho was your sister.
