Her Death

5 years ago.......

"I Love You Max, I always did and always will" she said walking towards me.

"Layla....I......I..am sorry. You are an amazing person but I never thought of you like that, I didn't know you had these feelings for me. You are just a friend to me. I am sorry"

"You're joking right? I know you love me. You do right? ANSWER ME DAMMIT!!"

"I am sorry Layla"

"I can do anything for you Max.....anything."

"Can't we just be friends?"

"NO WE CAN'T!!" she screamed "If you don't love me, then there is no point in me being alive"

"What do you mean?"

"Bye Max, don't ever forget how much I love you" she said walking to the edge of the terrace of a 30 floor building.

"Layla stop!"

But she didn't stop....

"I love you too Layla"

She stopped at the edge and turned to face me.

"See, I always knew you did"

"Yeah I do, now please move from there"

"I wasn't actually planning to sui-" she slipped and fell backwards.

I ran towards her to catch her but only touched the tip of her fingers.

I shut my eyes tight and opened them when I heard a sound, only to see her lying dead in her pool of blood.

I killed her.

5 years later......

I still had nightmares of her scream, of that dreaded day. The worst day of my life. It's my fault she died. I could have saved her if I had said those 3 words sooner even if I didn't mean them. I did nothing and now she's dead. I come up here everyday to remember her. Its like everything happened yesterday. That day is still fresh in my mind.

"Dude, are you crazy? If you're planning to suicide then first put your business and property on my name" said my crazy best friend Jacob pulling me back.

I guess I didn't realise how close I got to the edge of the terrace.

"I was not attempting suicide, just thinking" I said.

"You know, its time you let it go. It wasn't your fault, it was an accident"

"I wish it was true"

"It is. Now enough with the sad talk. I am setting you up on a date with a really hot chick" he said smirking.

He liked setting me up on dates, according to him I was spoiling my young age.

My name is Max Jefferson. I am a very successful business man. I am 27 years old and love to sing and play the guitar. I am rich, handsome, intelligent yet lonely. Jacob and my sister Ashley are the only two peeople in this entire world who I love and could give my life for. Everyone thinks its easy for me to get a girl because I am a "perfect guy", but the weird part is every time I get close to any girl emotionally or physically, something goes wrong. You could call it my bad luck or whatever.

Jacob was dating some girl whose name I don't remember (its not my fault he keeps changing his girlfriend every week), apparently she has a cousin and Jacob got this awesome idea (note sarcasm) of setting me up with her. It was a double date.

"Lets get out of this depressing place and go somewhere fun and lively" he said dragging me.

As we were leaving the building, I turned and looked one last time at it. For a split second I felt like I saw Layla standing there, I blinked my eyes and there was noone.

Jacob was right, its time I left this depressing place.

I stood on the side, trying not to make a face at the way Jacob was making out with his girlfriend whose name I think is Sucklebear (that's what he kept calling her. Yeah, I know weird name). It seems her cousin was on her way.

Tired of af all this I went out of the bar for some fresh air. 

"Let me go! I swear the next time you touch me I will kill you. Somebody help!" 

Some teenage guys were misbehaving with a girl who looked in her twenties. Though I wouldn't blame them, she really was hot. But being the good guy that I am, I went to help.

"Hey there! Let the girl go or else I will have to use my fists and to be honest I am not in a mood to do that" I said rolling my sleeves up.

"Yo mister, we are just having some fun here so chill and mind your own business" said one guy pushing me away. Big mistake.

I punched him on the face making his nose bleed. Seeing this all the other guys went running.

I walked to the girl who was picking up her bag.

"Thanks, I could have managed on my own if I was not wearing this short dress and if I had bought my pepper spray" she said smiling.

"I am glad I could help" I replied

"I am Alexis Kenderson"

"Max Jefferson" I said shaking hands.

"So, are you waiting for someone or you're here for a drink?" 

"Actually my best friend set me up on a date with his girlfriend's cousin, who I've never met and I won't be surprised if she was exactly like her cousin" I said in a disgusted manner.

"Oh, And what if she is not like that? I mean, she might be nice" she said nervously.

"I don't think so, if she was then she would have never agreed to come on a date with some random guy!"

"Well, you're here too"

"Yeah, but I was forced"

"Maybe even she was forced to come here and wear really short clothes and put on a lot of makeup"

I still didn't get why she was supporting her so much. She was supposed to be on my side since I saved her reputation!

"What about you?" I asked

"I am just waiting for that jerk to show up who my cousin set me up with" she said raising her eyebrows at me.

That's when it hit me! How could I be so stupid! She was the girl I was supposed to be on a date with and I insulted her on her face. She must be really pissed now.

"I am really sorry. I didn't know you were that girl. I was wrong, you're nothing like your cousin"

"I will forgive you if you allow me to change out of this stupid dress"

"Its your wish, you can wear anything you want and anyways I don't think I like the way people are staring at you" 

"Great! I'll just be back" she said going to the restroom.

I waited for 10 min. and then she came out wearing a black skin tight pant and a yellow tshirt with a black half jacket on top. Man, she was really hot!

"You look good now, I mean you looked good before, but this suits you more"

"I am happy you liked it, now lets go find my cousn and your friend"

With that we both went looking for them........

...........unaware that someone was watching us the whole time.
