Laser Tag

It had been about a week since the boys had helped me move my stuff in. I haven't seen them at all really. I've only been hanging out with Jack. Ive been meeting up with Jonah too for lunch and stuff but that was about it.

I was planning on meeting Jack at the boys house today though. We were gonna watch a movie in their movie room.

I got out of bed and put on a long sleeved yellow crop top with a hood and high waisted skinny jeans. I walked over to their house and Jack answered. We watched "A Quiet Place". Even though the movie was only playing in theaters, Jack knew a guy. The movie was actually really good, well, what I saw of it. Jack and I were a little...distracted throughout almost the entire thing.

After the movie finished, we both went up to Jack's room to hang out. A few hours had passed until he had to leave. I stayed in his room though and scrolled through my phone on his bed.

"Hey, Jack, I was wondering if-"

I looked up and saw Daniel in the doorway. I hadn't seen him in a while and things were a little awkward.

"Oh..hi Evelyn" he said. I gave him a weak smile and a weird little wave.

"Jack isn't here" I said.

"Oh...okay. See you later then I guess".

I nodded and Daniel closed the door. I felt my face cool off for a second but just then the door swung open again.

"No" said Daniel. "This is so dumb"

"What" I say

"It's dumb how we are acting like this. This isn't us you know? I totally got the message that you don't feel the way I feel for you romantically but that doesn't mean that we can't be friends."

I sat on Jack's bed not saying a word. Daniel was right. It was kind of dumb that we weren't that close anymore. But he thought that was because I didn't like him. If only he knew the real reason.

"I was gonna ask Jack if he wanted to come with me and Corbyn to go play laser tag. Why don't you come along instead? It'll be fun. Like we're friends again."

Daniel had this cute little innocent smile on his face.

"Okay" I say as I hop off of Jack's bed.

Daniel, Corbyn and I all get into Daniel's car and drive to the laser tag zone that's a few miles down the road. When we got there, we played a few arcade games. It was actually a lot more fun than I thought it would be. It was easy to let myself go and be myself around Daniel. I also felt more comfortable since Corbyn was there as well.

When we got into the laser tag area and got our teams, Corbyn and I were on the team against Daniel.

Daniel was such an easy target to hit. I kept killing him off. Every time I would hit him, I'd run away hella fast so he couldn't follow me.

Towards the end of the game, I was running around a couple sharp corners. I turned really fast around one of them and felt someone grab me by my waist. I almost immediately knew it was Daniel becasue I could smell his cologne.

He turned me around, bent over and kissed me. I opened my eyes wide and almost pulled back but I gave in and kissed him too. I eventually put my arms around his neck to keep him close to me.

We made out for a little bit until I heard a sound coming from the back of my jacket. Daniel and I both looked up and turned around

"Shit" we both said as we saw Corbyn standing there with his mouth opened wide.

"Hey Corbyn" said Daniel as he ran over to him. "Listen, this isn't what it looks likes man, Evelyn had uh...something in her mouth and I was umm just trying to help her"

"Oh no" said Corbyn. "I was running by and I saw you and someone making out and I hit her to see who it was. What the hell man? What's Jack gonna say?"

"He isn't gonna say anything" I yelled. I walked closer to him and lowered my voice. "Jack isn't gonna say anything, because Jack isn't gonna know anything. Got it?"

Corbyn nodded.

"How long has this been happening?"

"Well, it hasn't really been happening" said Daniel. "The only other thing that happened between us was before Jack and Evelyn got together officially. After that, we haven't been doing anything together."

"Who else knows about this?"

"Only you" I say. "And, it's going to stay that way". 

The rest of the day was pretty awkward after that. Corbyn and Daniel went back to their house and dropped me off at mine. After a few minutes, Daniel came down to my house to talk.

"Listen, I'm so sorry about what happened today" he said as soon as he walked in. "I totally messed up and I know that now. I should never had kissed you let alone have sex with you and make you choose between me andJack and now that Corbyb knows, that gonna fuck literally EVERYTHING up and-"

"Hey" I say as I put my hand on Daniel's chest. We lock eyes. "This is also my fault. I haven't been honest with you. The only reason why Ive been 'avoiding' you is becasue I do like you. it's just, we cant be together so I make myself stay away from you so I don't get tempted and I stay out of trouble. We both know that didn't happen but still. I don't want you to think that I don't like you and that you're forcing me to do stuff. I do like you. Like, I like you a lot . You literally have no idea how much I like you. We just can't be together right now. too much is happening."

Daniel took a step back and put his hands behind his head.

"You like me?" He whispered.

"Yeah" I said quietly back. I slowly started walking back to him.

Daniel and I were so close now. My chest was touching his. our faces got so close that our lips almost touched.

I took in a deep breath and said,

"We just cant be together".
