Once in a Lullaby (Naruto Fan Fic)

[Nine-tailed Fox Event]

(Third Hokage POV)

Have you ever thought something couldn't go wrong or that something is too beautiful to be in harms way? I have, right now, standing amongst my fellow Konoha people. All of us watching, huddled together, witnessing at the border of Konoha the Kitsune no kyuubi attacking the village!

I'm evacuating the villagers, hopefully I can lead a group of ANBU to help stop the Evil Fox once I'm done. Such a beautiful beast kyuubi is, despite smashing and roaring, moving violently here and there, causing carnage and chaos throughout Konoha.

As I watched him, making sure everyone was safe, I saw so suddenly, a great yellow flash flicker around the beast.... The Fourth Hokage is here!

(Hour later)

I made my way towards Minato and the kyuubi with ANBU in tow. But just before we arrived, the kyuubi vanished so quickly. Once we reached the clearing, we saw Minato, lying on the ground next to his newborn son, dying, ever so slowly dying. Just as we had reached them, Kushina came dashing towards us, tears flowing down her cheeks.

The pain she was feeling shown clearly on her facial features. It was hard watching her cry. She reached us, falling to her knees, pulling Minato up to hold him tightly, crying. "Minato! No! Minato!" She pressed her forehead to his, allowing tears to fall and hit his cheeks, just to roll down his cheeks, giving him the appearance that he was crying too.

In just a matter of seconds, Minato died in her arms.

"Kushina, Minato is dead." I slowly walked over to her, kneeling down. "You have a son that you must take care of." I began to pry her arms away from Minato, pulling him out of her grasp. She didn't try to resist, she just continued to kneel there, with me holding her arms by her wrist, with her head bent down, not allowing me to see her tears.

I looked up to see one of the ANBU shinobi picking the newborn up and carrying him over to us, he knelt down and held him out to her. She took him and held the newborn.

In her final moments of crying in front of the newborn, she whispered, "Naruto, I will protect you, forever."
