That feeling when everything you've done comes back to you, the feeling when you realize that you've killed people, good hardworking people, who just happened to be on the wrong side of a war. That was the feeling I had now, and I hated it. This is a feeling I will have to carry with me everywhere, and a feeling that I will never let go. This landscape, the rich beautiful blue sky. The luscious green grass, soft on your skin, filled with life from the children that play on it. The white puffy clouds, standing out in the sky like a king in his kingdom. The rich rocky mountains tinted a dark green from the life that grows there. The glorious castle, made from stone, a work of art on its own. Sadly no one was feeling this today.
Then the army rides in, there's a rumble in the ground, as tremendous as the loudest thunder in the harshest storm. With the army the darkness comes in, and surrounds us, and crowds us, it makes us feel like a lone fish in a vast pit of the ocean. There's a rumble in the ground the dead cold Frigidaire, sending chills through everyone's spines. The dark clouds standing over us, riding in with the enemy. The mountains, blocked off from the sun, are elephants in size and as dark as night.
Right now, the children are not at play. Only armies occupy this field, only armies preparing for battle. Only armies preparing to die if comes to that and armies preparing to win at all costs. This is the part of the battle that could make someone sick. This is the part of the battle where it's all in your mind. To win a battle, you must first win over your mind, and this is the time when this happens.
My brother sits on his horse in front of me leading an army ready to kill me, our father, everyone. Tall, with pale skin, black long hair, a gloomy feel around him. Tall dark ominous figure bringing fear to everyone.
I want to avoid this battle. he betrayed me once before, and now he is my enemy, but that doesn't mean I want to kill him. I hate him with all my guts but he's not worth dying over, he's not worth losing men over. Sadly, he does not feel the same way, while he does not care about me he set on taking over the castle and becoming king. he wants to take what he believes is his right and destiny that I stole from him. And so, he will not give up. he will not agree to turn around and leave the fighting for another time, another age.
I dismount my horse, turn to my men and begin to speak "We have been fighting this war for twelve long years, and I know you are tired of it, I am too, but the man over there leading that army, he isn't. he loves war, war feeds him, and he does not want this to end. Because of this we must fight, we must not let him take our home. If peace is not an option than the only other option is to fight, and so I will do what I must to protect my family, my home, and my king."
I hear the shouts of my men, cheering, some angry some happy. However, no matter what they think of me I know there with me because they fight for everything they have, and so if they're not with me than they are traitors to everyone they love. I mount my horse and were off, charging into a sea of men. I hear the first clash of swords and that is when I know it's begun, that is when I know there is no turning back. I ride through the evil, dark cloud slicing down as many enemies as I can. Until... he jumps out... out of nowhere... with no warning...he rides up to the side and as soon as I turn around the butt of a sword is in my face. I fall off my horse and lay on the ground in tremendous pain. My nose broken, blood spewing out all over the ground. But he, he is still there.
He gets off his horse and stands right over me. I can smell the foul stench of his breath, so strong as if I were standing a graveyard where no one got buried. As if I was standing at the site of a battle where everyone died, and nobody came for the bodies. he puts his lips so close to my ears I can he his breath, no matter how soft it is.
Slowly, painfully, and quietly he whispers, "You have failed again, but now this time will be your last, I won't make the mistake I made last time, I won't leave you alive".
