I started riding at 5 years old. I was taught by a really sweet girl in college named Mackenzie. She put me, a minuscule little girl, on a huge horse named Jack. He was a gentle giant. I was so young that I just "helped" her tack him up. We went into a round pen where I got my start. She taught me how to steer, stop, hold the reins, trot, walk, back-up, and all the basics. I loved it. Around the time I was about to learn how to do a posting trot, Mackenzie left to go to college in England. I started doing lessons with the owner of the barn. He was an amazing instructor, but not for kids. He was late to almost every lesson I had and focused more on the big girls than me. I spent about a year or so at this place, before my parents decided I needed a new barn, with an instructor who was more catered towards me. That's when we found my second barn.
