EDIT: Hi, it's Sera, the writer here. Umm... well..this is my first published fanfic, and I really don't know where this story is going to end up. I know that this is going to be about four to five chapters but besides this, I really don't know. So Comments and Constructive Critism are welcome! Thank you!
It’s not like its raining angels anymore, but the rain continues to plaster Castiel’s hair to his forehead as he rushes towards the two boys. Dean is still lying on Sam, his hand still resting on his cheek from when he’d tried wake his brother up. Dean may not know, but Castiel senses that there was still some life in Sam left then. Now it all trickled out of him in rivers of crimson red. The rain had washed most of the blood away, and Castiel is thankful for that.He kneels down beside them, gently pushing Dean’s limp form off of his brother.Dean jerks, opening his eyes wide to stare at Castiel. “Cas,” he coughs, blood trickling out the corner of his mouth. Castiel realizes he must be suffocating in blood, the cardinal liquid filling his lungs instead of oxygen. Castiel brushes Dean’s hair off his face, hushing him. “It’s okay, Dean. You did well.” “Didn’t… Sammy, he…” Dean trails off, eyes fluttering shut once more as his energy leaves him.
Before Cas realizes what he’s doing, he starts to sing. He sang the first song that came to mind when he thought of the two—these two siblings, still so young, that have given and done everything to set things right.
“Carry on my wayward son
There’ll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don’t you cry no more…”
Castiel doesn’t know when Dean lets go of his last breath, but when he finishes his serenade; his eyes are blank; staring into empty space. Castiel kneels down and closes his eyes. “You did well.” Castiel whispers softly, and gets up. As he walks away, he prays the tears streaming down his face are raindrops. They must be.
