~*Playground, school bell rings.*~

The sound of gunshot could be heard everywhere, the loud ruckus the enemy shells kicked up was hard to hear over. (y/n) and Steve Rogers were fighting for their lives in what was a simple recon mission that had taken a terrible turn for the worse. They were surrounded in a small warehouse, fifty men on their left, twenty-nine to their left, and all the exits and entrances and windows blocked. But little by little the enemy forces dwindled.

~*Again*~

There were about forty to thirty men left and decreasing as the super soldier and his mutant wife. Steve had taken one of the fallen mens guns and was firing at the offending men while (y/n) was using her powers of teleportation paired with her 30 caliber handgun to confuse and take out more enemy soldiers. The two were virtually unstoppable. "Where's the pickup team to get us out of here?" Steve asked over the deafening sound of rounds being unloaded. "Beats me. But I think we're doing ok so far." (y/n) replied before teleporting close to a group of men and unloading a few rounds.

~*Rain clouds come to play*~

The enemy force was down to about fifteen men now and (y/n) was slowly running out of ammo. She was surrounded by 5 men and took out 3 men before she heard the unsatisfying click of her gun as it no longer had any bullets. She reached for her extra clip to find that she had used that up as well. The other two caught on to this and smirked to each other before they let off shots simultaneously before she could teleport, managing to hit her three times before she had teleported away.

~*Again*~

She landed closer to where Steve had been fighting ten men but had already taken down nine of them before he heard his wife's scream of anguish not too far from him. He took down the last of the men before he bolted to (y/n)'s side. "(Y/N)!" He shouted as he knelt beside her. However, she did not respond. "(y/n?" The Star Spangled man's voice held a hearty mixture of concern and worry. "(y/n) please, answer me." He said as he picked her up, careful of the two wounds in her torso and the one in her chest. She winced in pain as Steve lightly jostled her in his arms before a wave of violent coughs racked her form, spraying crimson onto the blue material of his uniform.

~*Has no one told you she's not breathing?*~

The bullet that hit her chest had punctured a lung and she was starting to choke on her own blood. "(y/n), no. No. This can't be happening." Steve said as the coughs died down a little, panic setting in. "Stay with me (y/n). Please." Tears were streaming down both of their faces by now. (y/n) raised a shaky hand and placed it on his cheek, her eyes gleaming as if to say 'I will try'. "I-I love you (y/n), just stay with me." Steve said as the sound of a helicopter could be heard above.

~*Hello. I'm your mind. Giving you someone to talk to. Hello.*~

Steve gently stood up and started towards the doors to where the helicopter landed before he heard a small choking sound and he looked at (y/n) before she smiled lightly. "I-I lo-lo-lo-ve y-y-yo-ou." she choked out before her head fell limp along with the rest of her body, the hand that was still on Steve's cheek fell from its resting place. "No.nonononononono. Don't go. (y/n)?" No answer. Steve fell to his knees, gently placing (y/n) on the ground. "I-I love y-you too."

~*Don't try to fix me I'm not broken*~

Steve's whole body jolted upwards, what blankets that had been on his sweat covered torso slid off. A dream. It had all been a dream. A horrid nightmare. But as Steve looked to his wife's side of the bed, he was met with emptiness. He looked to the en suite in their room only to find it dark and un occupied. His world was coming down around him as he started to see that maybe that wasn't just a dream.

~*Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping.*~

"NO!" He shouted, startling the other occupant of the house who was in the room down the hall writing on her computer due to insomnia. They made their way to the bedroom to see Steve hunched over, sobs racking his large frame. "What's wrong?" she asked, but Steve didn't look up. "She's gone." Was all he said. The person was confused as to whom he was talking about and came a little closer. "Who?" Steve still didn't look up. "(y-y/n). S-she's d-dead." the super soldier said softly, but was still heard by the figure in front of him. The figure laughed a little. "That's news to me Stevie." she said using the pet name that only one person ever used with him.

~*I'm still here.*~

It was then that Steve looked up. And standing before him was none other than (y/n), alive and well. He bolted up from the bed and made it to her at superhuman speed, nearly knocking her over as he wrapped his arms around her burying his face in her hair. "Shhh. It's okay honey. I'm here." She said patting his hair to reassure him that everything was fine. "I-I h-had a terrible nightmare. I-it felt t-too real." his voice sounded small, almost childlike. (y/n) placed a small kiss on his forehead. "Steve, I'm fine. It was just a dream. I'll never leave you. Never ever." She said leading him towards their bed and laying him down so he can curl up to her if he wanted to. "Ok." he said looking up at her with shining blue eyes, her own(e/c) eyes shining with love.

~*All that's left of yesterday*~

She gave him a small yet passionate kiss before he settled down with his head on her chest and was content with the steady beating of her heart before he dozed off.
