Chapter 4

I felt like I was doing a lot better with my bow and arrow. I was nowhere close to being perfect at it, but at least now I was hitting the targets during training. Not close to the bullseye, but it still hit the target every single shot.

Ever since I started training with Grayson, I was feeling a lot better about being a Protector. I didn't know if I would ever be ready to go back on missions any time soon, but at least I was feeling more confident.

While Grayson was training me once again, Dad walked into the training room. "So, there's a mission I need two people to go on," he said.

"Us?" I asked. "No, Dad, I can't. I'm not ready to go back on a mission. I froze last time."

"I know," Dad said. "And I would never send you on a mission you aren't ready for. I promise, this will be as simple as it gets. I just need you two to go to the nightclub where a lot of supernaturals and Protectors hangout in. All you have to do there is try to find out if anyone there knows what's going on with the recent demon attacks."

"Do you think they'll tell us anything?" I asked. "We are Protectors and a lot of supernaturals don't really like us."

"Some might," Dad said. "But if not, you can always just listen in on conversations and see if people are talking about it. It's only if you want to go. I'm sure I can find other people to go."

I wasn't sure if I was ready to go back on a mission, but at least this really should be an easy one. Well, by easy I meant I could leave my bow and arrows behind since I probably wouldn't have to use it on anyone.

Besides, maybe going out on simple missions would help me in the future.

"Okay, I think I'm up to going," I said.

"Are you sure?" Dad asked. "I don't want you to feel like you're being pressured into this."

"I know," I said. "And I don't feel pressured. I'll be able to handle going."

"Thank you," Dad said. "Grayson, are you up to going as well? I don't want my daughter going alone."

       "Yeah, of course," Grayson said.

"Great," Dad said. "If you two feel like you're just not getting any information at the nightclub, you can come back at any time. Just give it at least an hour."

Grayson and I had to get changed first to head to the night club since we were both just training and we would stand out a lot more in these clohtes.

I didn't really have much clothes I could wear to a night club that wouldn't make me feel underdressed, so I had to settle with some black jeans, a v-neck black shirt, and a black jacket.

I had a lot of black in my wardrobe.

After getting changed and fixing the high ponytail my hair was already in, I met Grayson by the front doors of the HQ. "So, I've never been to a nightclub before," I said. "Do you think this outfit works so I'll fit in?"

"Yeah, it does," Grayson said. "You like great."

       I smiled softly. "Thanks."

Grayson, like myself, also had an all black outfit, though I was pretty sure that was the only colour he actually had in his wardrobe. Come to think of it, I hadn't seen him wear any other colour.

I didn't blame him. Black went with everything, especially my soul.

We headed out of the HQ and went to the nightclub where a lot of supernaturals and Protectors spent time in. In fact, it was very rare to see a full human in there, which was definitely a plus for us Protectors and the supernaturals because it was a place we could just unwind and relax without being confined in the HQ or wherever the supernaturals stay.
