Alex awoke at five in the morning to his father coming home drunk with another woman. Alex groaned and rolled over, he should've been used to this by now. Ever since his mother Elise died of cancer last year his father would always try to replace her with others but none would ever stay. It was always the same, they would come home with his father, have sex and then leave. So it wasn't really a big surprise that his father brought someone home again but it still bothered him.

After a few minutes Alex came to realise that he wouldn't be getting back to sleep any time soon so he sat up and grabbed his phone from his bedside table. He unlocked his phone and checked his messages. There were three unread messages. Two were from his best friend and one from an unknown number.

Alex decided to check his best friend's messages first.

His best friend's messages

"Hey Alex, you awake yet?"
"I need help with some stuff"

Alex sighs, whenever his best friend messages him it's usually because he wants something. Alex decides to ignore him and check the unknown number.

The Unknown Number

"Hello Alex, my name is not important now but I am here to help you at your new school. You may either choose to accept the help or ignore it, the choice is yours."

Alex stared at his phone blankly, a million thoughts are racing through his mind. Who was this person, how did they know his name and where did they get his number??! He responded to the message..

The Unknown Number

"Hello Alex, my name is not important now but I am here to help you at your new school. You may either choose to accept the help or ignore it, the choice is yours."

"Hello. I will give you an answer, but first you must answer my questions. Okay?"

"Alright"

"Good"
"First, How did you get my name and phone number?"

"Let's just say I know things. Next?"

"Okay. Second, How did you know I was starting a new school?"

"Once again, I just know things"

"Whatever, and finally, your name"

"I can't tell you that yet, but for now you can call me... Shadow. Alright?"
"Now give me an answer"

"Yes"
"I have to go now or I'm going to be late for school. Goodbye"

"Alright buy just remember, I'll be watching you"

Alex felt a shiver run down his spine from that last message but he couldn't allow that to bother him, for now he had to get dressed and walk to school.
