My grandma wouldn't stop looking at me strangely the next day. I was at her place, doing my homework. I had no other reason to be there, of course, so I tried to convince myself that it had nothing to do with Saphryn being there.

Saphryn was in the middle of some sort of focus training when my grandmother shouted my name, calling me over.

"You flinched!" She shouted at Saphryn. "Focus."

When I reached the living room, Saphryn was sitting cross-legged on the floor in a meditation position, frowning deeply.

"Yeah?"

My grandmother simply looked at me.

Suddenly, she turned to Sahryn and stared at him for a little while too.

After another moment, my grandmother rolled her eyes. "Oh, god." She said, getting up and marching off.

I watched her go, then, when I turned to Saphryn, his eyes were open and he shrugged.

He was oblivious, obviously... but... oh my god... she knew.

She knew something.

And whatever it was... I wasn't too pleased with her knowing. Not now, at least.

I followed my grandmother into the the kitchen. "What's wrong?" I asked, worriedly.

"Nothing," she simply said. "I just realized I forgot to make lunch."

She was lying and I knew it.

"Why did you call me?"

"Oh, I was just testing Saphryn to see if he would break focus. Which he did," she paused. "And he is still doing!" She said loudly. When I looked into the living room, Saphryn was sitting stiffly, frowning.

After another pause, my grandmother sighed. She then handed me a piece of paper. "Do you mind stopping by the grocery store for me? I am out of milk and bread."

I hesitated, but nodded.

Midnight decided to come with me. It was a little stranger now, being around Midnight. She was more than just a little cat now. She was the same kind of beast that Avarius was, and she could talk to me.

You are developing feelings for Saphryn?

She didn't waste a single second and cut straight to the chase. "What!" I hissed, wanting to respond to her but not wanting to sound like a crazy cat lady. "No, of course not!"

Midnight chuckled. Her voice was mature and kind and sounded rather motherly. He is a good boy. She said. He's trying very hard, and a great deal of his drive comes from his desire to protect you.

My cheeks were burning and I gulped back my pride and ego. "Does he... like... me?"

Midnight laughed now. Oh, how would I know, darling?

I thought I would faint as I crouched down in front of her, feeling unbelievably embarrassed. "Then how can you say I like him with such confidence?!"

She grinned, revealing her sharp, white, cat teeth. I've known you since you were born. How could I not know?

If Midnight knew then so did my grandmother, for sure. But to be honest, they knew more than I did. I wasn't sure if I actually liked him. I mean, I didn't really even know him.

Quite some time had passed since Midnight confronted me and I was at Saphryn's place. He was on a short mission with his friend Nyle and since they were going far away, I had to stay on their side of the mirror so I wouldn't, you know, die.
