To say that my parents were annoying and judgemental was a bit of an understatement. To say that they were kind and caring and didn't care what I did as long as I tried my best was definitely an overstatement.
It's reached the point where all of my relationships since the age of 13 have been shockingly short, even at that age. They never approved of any boy I liked, whether I'd introduced them to him or not; they always found a way to find out what was going on in my life.
The one person that they actually did approve of was someone who I would rather die than be with.
Sure, that sounds horrible, mean and really judgemental and shallow, but if you saw him, you'd feel the same. He had brown shoulder-length, wavy hair with his parting down the middle; circle glasses that reminded me of Harry Potter; newly attatched braces, his teeth still pretty wonky; bushy eyebrows that were in desperate need of some plucking, looking like two caterpillars had fallen on his face.
Yup, he's ugly.
Yet he's the only guy I've ever (in desperation, mind you) brought home that my parents approved of. The others were either too vain, too old, too immature, too short, too muscley...and the list goes on.
This guy was taller than me, smartest guy in the year, was pretty quiet and didn't say much...and ugly. I don't know if they were happy because it meant they would have no problem with over egotistical guys that just wanted to get in my pants or what, but it frustrated me all the same. Despite what happens in all stupid cliched movies, where the ugly nerd isn't really ugly at all, he takes off his glasses and suddenly, they're the hottest guys in the school and all the jocks get jealous, this was most definitely not the case.
No, this guy takes off his glasses and he squints worse than I do in the sun with no shades and end up lifting up his top lip in an effort to force everything into focus, showing his braces and looking..eurgh.
My parents call him my "Prince Charming".
More like "Prince Ugly."

-chapter1-
"Alyssa! Are you kidding me?" My best friend, Rose whispered in my ear.
I just nodded solemnly. Owen had insisted on taking me out to a hotel this weekend for our 5 month "anniversary".
"Are you crazy? What did you say?" She urged, despite knowing the attitude I was using was the one I tended to have whenever I didn't want to talk about something.
"I said yeah," I mumbled, staring down at the blank piece of paper in front of me, hoping that words would just appear on it with no imput from me.
"Why?!" She pressed.
I just shrugged half-heartedly. "To please my parents I guess. They were there when he asked."
"You're gonna have to tell them at some point that you don't like him at all and wouldn't voluntarily date him even if he was the last guy on this Earth."
I almost smiled. "I don't really think they'd take to that too well."
"But you're lying to him!" Rose whispered frantically, glancing up quickly to check if the teacher was glaring at us or not. With it turning out to be the latter, she turned back to me. "Every single day more that you 'go out' with him, the more you'll hurt him in the end."
I knew she had a point, but my parents were just too hard to please, who knew when the next guy might come along that they'll like just as much? Probably in 56789.69billion years when the world has exploded and we're all making babies in the universe.
