I hadn't seen Carrie since high school. She seemed the type who'd get married early and settle down, maybe skip college. The last place I expected her was in a library, a stack of books on either side of her with titles like 'Pregnant, now what?'. I watched as she cried and was writing something down. I walked over and said "Are you okay?" She looked up at me, tears falling down her face. She simply said "I'm fine," got up, and left. As she did, a picture fell from her pocket. It was a picture of an ultrasound showing twins, the date at the top read 2-5-17. She was eight months pregnant and seemed horrified. I ran to give it back, but she had disappeared. A few days later I saw her in the news. She had been in an accident, and after being taken to the hospital had went into labor. She died in the hospital while holding onto her twin baby girls. I was in shock, I saw her just before she died and she had looked so scared. As I did further research I discovered that she died two weeks earlier. But I had seen her in the library just a few days ago, so that shouldn't have been possible. Every night since I learned of her death I have seen the same nightmare over and over. It starts weeks before her death- I see a woman being abandoned by the father of her two unborn children. A single woman, scared and alone, left to be a single parent and no means to support herself- let alone two newborns. The nightmare always ends with the children being abandoned as a consequence of the mother leaving behind her own body.
