Scarlet Tate was just 10 years old when the crash happened, her mother was driving home to her ill husband after a 'girl's trip out'. She lost control of the car when Scarlet's younger sister transformed into what they all knew was a coyote. Malia attacked her mother, Scarlet and thier younger sister. By that time in Scarlet's life she had learnt to control her ability to transform into a coyote but Malia had not. Their mother and younger sister did not have these strange abilities or even knowing of the supernatural powers their family members held within them. The car rolled down off the road and the two, now fully transformed coyotes, jumped out of the car. They both ran but Malia ran faster. Scarlet did not want to leave her friends so she turned to human form and concealed her healing so the doctors could treat her and no one else would find out about her powers.
