I swung my legs off the half covered bed onto the cold, hard tile floor of my bedroom. My feet meeting the floor, I stood up and puffed out a sigh. My room was a plain white color with red blackout curtains, (that never get opened) and on the far side of my room was my dresser that looked like it was from the 1920s.
I walked out of my room into the hallway that was white and had no pictures hung up. I passed my brothers room to get to the bathroom. I got into the bathroom that had ugly blue painted walls and bath/shower, sink, and a toilet. There was no medicine cabinet, so all pills that me and my older brother had were skewed across the counter. I closed the door behind me and locked it so Chris didn't walk in.
I walked over to the sink and looked at the mirror. The mirror showed what every mirror did. A pale face, with black hair that swept across my face, one deep blue eye and one deep brown eye, a broken smile and lastly a tall and lanky body. But one thing some mirrors don't show are the two little cat ears that sit on top on each side of my head. I stared at all of my face noticing every little flaw. I looked away from the mirror and to the multiple bottles of medication. I found my bottle. I picked it up and unscrewed the top of the bottle and then shook out two blue and green pills that were the size of a dime. I popped them into my mouth then got some water from the sink to wash down the hard pills.
There was a knock at the door and a deep British voice filled the tiny room. "Alice. Come on! It the first day of our new school. We can't be late!" Chris said threw the door. He was right. We just moved from England to a small town in the state of Washington in the US. It was the middle of January when we moved. Which I thought was really stupid. "Yeah I'll be out in a sec." I said with a hint of nervousness in my voice. I felt a weird feeling in my head. I looked back at the mirror to see that the cat ears were gone. But the two different color eyes remained. I unlocked the wooden door with a click and slid between my brother and the white door frame. And back down the hallway into my room.
I turned music on my phone, then i searched around for my eyeliner, beanie and my glasses. After a few minutes of looking for those, I decided to look for some clothes. I found my black and red flannel and some black skinny jeans. After I put those on I ran over to my mirror and desk to do my makeup. I checked my phone to check the time, it was 8:30 am Friday, January 20th. I had ten minutes to get makeup done, teeth brushed, shoes on, flat iron my hair, and to grab something to eat. "Crap!" I uttered under my breath. Quickly i did my makeup and ran over to my black combat boots that looked like could cut someone if they touched the spikes on the side of the shoes. I put the socks that were shoved inside of the boots on and then put the boots on quickly. I ran out the door of my room back into the bathroom and turned on the flat iron, brushed my teeth.
My mum walked by the bathroom and looked in, "Alice where are your glasses?" I looked over at her and saw her piercing blue eyes that gave me the 'Kid I swear you get on my nerves' look. I couldn't really give her an answer because I had been brushing my teeth. I ran out of the bathroom with my toothbrush hanging out of my mouth, and into my room to get my glasses from my desk. I ran back into the bathroom and finished brushing my teeth. I turned to the flat iron flipped my head over, letting the long black hair fall over my face. I pulled the flatiron through my hair slowly so it would look good.
After that I straightened back up and ran my brush through my hair, then picked up the bottle of hairspray and sprayed it all over my hair. I finished up in the bathroom and ran down the tall carpeted stairs right into a six foot tall giant who had blue eyes and black hair, Chris. "Hey little sis, we need to get going. Mum! Come on! We cannot be late." His deep voice boomed. If you looked at me and Chris side by side, you would think we are twins. But he is a year older than me and he has one color for eyes, while I have two. But our face shape it the same, same nose and mouth. But he is like two inches taller than me. Our mum who looked like Mrs. Weasley came waddling down the stairs. She had dark curly hair and she was short and plump. "Okay, okay. Get in the car, we cannot be late to meet your principle and for your first day of school." Me and Chris exchanged glances and walked into the kitchen and grabbed two blueberry pop tarts each.
We piled into the car with all of the backpacks, mum in the driver seat, Chris in the passenger seat, and little me in the back. Chris was going into his 12th grade year. And I was going into my 11th. I was not excited. Mostly because I was going into a new school and my best friend Chloe won't be with me. It was hard making friends even in a school I was used to, but now, the game had changed. I sat in the car with music still playing in earphones. I looked out the window of the car and saw fast passing trees that lead to a huge forest. I loved spending time in the forest and going on adventures with Chloe.
We pulled up to the three story tall school that had kids walking everywhere. My heart rate shot up like a bullet. "Alice, calm down. You will be just fine. Just breath." I told myself. We pulled up to the visitor parking spot and got out of the car. I grabbed my Batman backpack and Chris grabbed his Robin backpack. Yes we have Batman and Robin backpacks because we go together like Batman and Robin. The three of us walked up to the main office and knocked on the door. A skinny, small women opened the door, "Hello, is there something I could help you with." She asked with her high pitched voice. She brought us into the office and went behind the desk. She had dirty blond hair and was wearing a navy blue dress that didn't look good on her at all. "Yes. We have a meeting with the principal." Mum said to the lady, "Oh right. He is right down this hallway. Last door on the left. I will tell him you are here." She got up and walked down the hall.
The lady came back out, "You can go in now." Was all the said with a smile. But deep down I knew it was a fake smile. We walked back to his office. His door was open and we entered. "Hello. MY name is Mr. Smith. You must be the Lewis family." "Hello, my name is Dana Lewis, this is Chris and Alice." Mum said. "Hello sir." Chris said. "Hello." I said quietly. Mr. Smith was bald tall and lanky with dark green eyes. He explained to us about the school and how things worked around here. "I will send you two to the guidance counselor to get your schedule. "Thank you very much, Mr. Smith. Okay you two, be good today. And Alice, try and make friends. Please." Mum said giving us both bone crushing hugs. Mr. Smith gave a chuckle and lead us out.
Chris, Mr. Smith and I walked to the guidance office to get schedules. "Alice, I have noticed that you have two different eye colors. How did that happen." Mr. Smith asked. I looked over at Chris with nervous seeping through my eyes. "She was born with it." Chris stated looking over at me because it was a lie. We were not just going to straight us say that I was a science experiment. "Oh well that's neat." Was the last thing he said before we got into the bright blue office that had college papers strewn about. "Can I speak with Lora?" Mr Smith said to a small fat dark skin women. She got up and waddled back to get someone. Im guessing Lora walked out behind the little women, "Hello Mr. Smith. How can I help you?" She had a high pitched voice, she was tall and had dyed blond hair that was pulled up into a messy bun. She had to be in her late 20s. "Can we have Chris and Alice Lewis's classes please." Lora walked back to a filing cabinet and pulled out two schedules. She looked at them and walked back. "Here you go. My name is Ms. Fitzpatrick. But call me Ms. F. " She said with a sweet tone.
Mr. Smith told us we could leave and to go to class. Chris and I walked out of that room and into this huge hallway. "You will be just fine little sis." He scuffed my hair up. "Thanks big bro. Have fun in your class. What lunch do you have?" I asked before we parted ways. "It looks like second lunch. What about you?" I looked down at my classes and smiled. "Looks like we have the same lunch Chris. Meet me outside when lunch starts. Okay?" He nodded and gave me a hug before we had to get to class. He walked to the other side of the hall and I forced my legs to walk me to my first class. Biology. I walked up to the 3rd floor and down to the room 323. I took long deep breaths before knocking on the door three times. The teacher walked over to the door and smiled. "You must be the new student. Alice correct?" "Yes ma'am." I said quietly trying not to look her in the eyes.
"Follow me, class this is our new student. Alice." All eyes looked up at me as I walked in. All these new faces. Finding one way to harass me. My eyes. All new faces.
