Tim want sure how he felt anymore. Of course he was completely positive about loving toby, but about his life? No. Not in the least. He had just committed murder, let alone it was his old best friend from college.
Concern and doubt ran through his mind. He sat there in this stinky old car thinking of what he could do to keep Toby safe. He was wanted to, he had killed a cop, and he acted like he had done it before. Tim wished he could have his attitude toward this.
On top of everything else he was having an existential crisis. Pointless thoughts ran through his head as he sat there. What actually happens when we die? That was a question he asked himself quite often. Tim glanced over at Toby which he had assumed was still asleep. Toby stirred and woke with his eyes immediately meeting Tim's.
"Morning, sleeping beauty." Tim smiled.
Toby grinned back. "Its 1pm dipshit."
The two giggled and shared a quick kiss.
"Do you ever wonder what happens when we die? I mean the whole heaven and hell thing sounds a bit...I dunno...made up?" Tim asked after a moment of silence.
Toby sat there a solid minute thinking of how to answer. "Hmm...im not sure. In a way I hope the heaven and hell thing aren't real. Im pretty sure im doomed for hell, and im not the religious type. I guess maybe we go somewhere after we die, whether that be some cloud palace or a fiery dungeon of doom im not sure. It wouldn't really make sense to be thrown into oblivion. I guess I always hoped reincarnation was true. It would be cool to come back as an animal or another human maybe."
"I read a book and one idea is that we could be sent to a theater with our whole life played out on the screen." Tim stared blankly in front of him.
"You read?" Toby did his best to suppress a giggle.
"What? What's so surprising about that?" Tim giggled breaking his stare.
"I don't know, guess I just can't picture it." Toby had a hand over his mouth.
"I only read when I get the time. I just haven't been able to since I started traveling." Tim stated.
"You mean hitchhiking?" Toby poked his side lightly earning a slight chuckle.
"Yeah. Yeah. Call it what you want." Tim grinned then frowned. "You know were criminals now, right?"
Toby nodded, his smile now gone from his face.
"I'm so sorry you had to be dragged into this, but I promise to protect you. We can make it through this." Tim grabbed his hand. "I love you. I don't want you to leave me but I completely understand if you want to."
"I wouldn't leave you for something vie already done, that would be quite hypocritical of me wouldn't it?" Toby smiled a bit.
Tim was now beyond confused. "What do you mean?"
Toby now realized his mistake. "I-I...I killed my father." Toby sighed. "But he deserved it! He would beat my mom and my sister everyday! He was a drunk and he didn't even come to see my sister in the hospital! He didn't care at all about them."
"He does sound like he deserved it." Tim brought him closer and kissed his forehead.
Toby rested his head on tims chest, listening to his steady heartbeat. "I stabbed him while he was watching the TV. He was awake and fought me for the knife after I stabbed him in the shoulder then I stabbed him in the chest. My mum saw me and ive never seen anyone more terrified in there life. I bet she thought I was going to kill her. I ran out to the garage and grabbed two hatchets, a gasoline tank, and a couple of matches. I lit that damn neighborhood on fire." Toby choked out.
Tim just sat there petting his hair. "Im sorry. Im really sorry love." Tim sighed. "But we have to go on. We can't get jobs and start new, so I guess that means we have to keep on with this life style. Maybe move to a forieghn place to lay low for a bit then proceed like this. Where wanted now."
Toby nodded. "Could be fun, always living like each days your last. Who knows if or when we'll be caught. Im in!" Toby grinned.
"Well, guess that makes us partners in crime, sweetheart." Tim grinned.
Toby nodded and went back to listening to Tim's heartbeat. He sighed in content.
A few minutes passed and he could hear the engine starting. Tim drove back onto the road.
"I love you Toby, I always will." he whispered.
Toby smiled. "I'll always love you too, Timmy."
Tim pouted and ruffled the boys hair.
They were both scared. They both knew the possibilities of getting caught were against them, but they didn't care. They had eachother and that's all that mattered. They had eachother to make things alright. Even if they died tomorrow they would still be content with the time they've spent together. And isn't that what true love is? Loving eachother no matter how bad the situation seems. I think it is.
