Odessa sits quietly in her chair, waiting to be called.

She's at graduation rehearsals!

In all honesty, Odessa was excited about it. She was the valedictorian giving the speech at the end of the ceremony, after all.

She saw her friends being called up. One by one.

"Ida Briggs." Ms.  McCall, a math teacher who wears an excessive amount of make up, speaks into the microphone.

Ida stands up and excitedly and walks up to the teacher and shakes her hand.

"Hi." She says, smiling shyly.

A few more people are called before Odessa hears her other two friends' names.

Nate Dave and Abraham Decker.

After what seemed like an eternity to Odessa she is finally called.

"Odessa Justice."

She goes up there and delivers her speech, which she is still worried isn't good enough.

Rehearsals end and she meets up with her friends outside.

"Oh gosh, I'm so excited yet nervous at the same time!" Ida happily gushes.

"Yeah, I can't believe it! No more school!" Exclaims Nate.

"But we have college." Odessa points out. Nate frowns.

"And we'll have to get jobs." Abraham adds. Nate's frown grows.

They all laugh at Nate. Ida pats him on the head, "It's alright, Nate. So what are our plans?"

"Vegas?" Abraham volunteers.

Ida, Odessa and Nate all give him a weird look. "It was only a suggestion." He mumbles.

"California!" Nate yells, making everyone jump.

They all look at each other with knowingly smiles.

"That'll be awesome!" Screeches Ida.

Odessa adds, " That's not a bad idea!"

"This is going to be the best summer ever!"Abraham says.

"Don't jinx us." Ida lightly hits him.

"The hard part, though, will be convincing our moms." Odessa said.

They all murmur yes.

The four friends walk out of the school parking lot and to their cars before exchanging goodbyes.
