Nicole returned home after the dinner with her mother, still feeling a lot better than she did before, but the moment she stepped into the house, her heart felt another arrow of pain puncture into it when she was hit with the memory of her father. Luckily for her though, the pain was slightly lessened, it was as if the fact that since the man who raised her wasn't her birth father somehow comforted her, gave her a reason to disconnect herself from him, but then she remembered that he was the one raised her, he may not have been her birth father, but he had taken the time to act like it. Before a tear could fall, her mother put a comforting hand on her shoulder, giving her a bit of comfort before she went back upstairs to her room, getting ready to go to bed.
With a sigh, Nicole shut her bedroom door and flicked on her light,
"Nicole?" Mark asked, seeming to have appeared on her bed like a shadow cast by something in the light. Nicole jumped and shrieked, her eyes going wide for a moment before her heart slowed down and her fear turned to anger,
"Marcus!" She snapped, but the dark-haired angelic boy just giggled and ran over, hugging her in a tight, almost bone-crushing hug. Before either of them could breathe another breath, Nicole's mother burst through the door, a pan gripped in her hand, her eyes wild with anger and panic as she snarled into the room until her eyes set on her daughter and she went to attack Mark with an animalistic shriek. In an instant, Nicole pushed off of Mark and screamed for her mom to stop, watching her mother freeze like an ice statue in mid-strike, Mark also froze as well, his wings half curled around Nicole and himself,
"Nicole, who is this?" Her mother asked, still poised to attack the blind angel who snarled like an animal to the point of Nicole was able to feel him against her. The succubus bit her lip as she looked at the floor, pressing against Mark in hopes of making him calm down somehow. After a moment passed Nicole finally spoke,"Mom, this is my...boyfriend, Mark Lancaster..." She muttered, fidgetting nervously while her mother processed this information and dropped her weapon. Nicole jumped at the sudden crash, her head whipping upwards to stare at her mothers shocked, pale face, but the woman seemed to notice her daughters look and took a deep breath, calming down,
"Nope, I am not going to judge him for his families name," She muttered to herself before sticking her hand out to Mark with a smile that was somewhat forced, "Hi Mark! My name is Melissa!" She said, her suddenly happy tone jarring both Nicole and Mark, but the boy calmed quickly and reached forward, groping the air until Melissa grabbed his hand and shook it. Mark put his wings down a little bit, but Nicole could see by the way that they stayed somewhat open, that Mark was still tense or upset.Melissa smiled at Nicole,
"Why didn't you tell me you had a boyfriend? Was he the reason you were up so late that one night?" She asked, eyeing her daughter knowingly,
"M-mom! You've seen him before, how did you not make the connection?!" Nicole snapped, blushing at the mention of when she washed Mark's clothes, Nicole's mom gave her a confused look, so she explained to her when she saw him on the bed, but her mother didn't seem to remember that part of the day at all. Eventually, Nicole just gave up, huffing in defeat and just hugging Mark."Oh, Mark, since I know about you, do you mind maybe telling me why you're with my daughter?" Melissa asked, barely hiding her prying intentions or the suspicion that laced her words, but if Mark noticed it, he said nothing.
"Why I'm dating her? That's easy, I love the way she talks, she has a very beautiful voice and has a wonderful attitude that makes me feel safe and comfortable." Mark said, giving Nicole a gentle squeeze as he held her, making sure that at least one hand was always on her.Nicole's mother eyed him but seemed somewhat satiated by his answer, turning and wishing Nicole a good night before heading to her room to go to bed. When her mother was gone, Nicole shut her door again and turned to Mark,
"What are you doing here?" She asked firmly, her caramel colored eyes narrowed at Mark as she waited for her lover to answer. Mark let his wings droop down like a sad puppy hides his tail between his legs,
"You didn't come over for a few days, and I got scared that maybe you were trying to ditch me, I thought that maybe I had become too needy for you, or maybe you had met someone who was better...in bed, and wasn't as dependent as I am, so I decided to come over and check on you, since I have no other way to really contact you." He said, his voice slowly filling with sorrow and melancholy. Nicole's heart squeezed as she looked at his black, blind eyes, watching them fill with tears the size of a pin or slightly bigger, that gathered at the corners of his eyes, glistening like diamonds of sadness.Nicole sighed and reached up, gently brushing his tears away with her thumbs before cupping his pale face in her hands, letting him lean into her palms,
"Mark, listen to me, I adore you, you are a sweet, caring man who is willing to put up with my needs, weight, and lazy attitude, even without sight, you seem to love me and truly care about me." She said, keeping her voice firm enough to keep his attention, but making sure that it didn't sound like she was accusing him of anything,
"I do, I do care about you, you're the first girl I've met who have been willing to take care of my needs as well, but I'm blind, I can't do some of the things other men can do, like take you to the movies, or cuddle you and watch tv, I can't do that..." He whimpered, sniffling as Nicole wiped away more of his tears, taking a deep breath and tightening her grip on his face,"Marcus quit it. Quit thinking that I want you to be like other men, other men use me for sex, they only want my body," She explained, "Now, I don't give a shit if you can take me out to the movies, I don't give a crap if you can watch tv, or read books, as long as you can understand my needs and you can continue to love me, I will always return to you." She said, stroking his cheek as he sniffled and nodded, blinking away his tears and trying not to sob.
"I love you," He whimpered in a broken voice that quivered and was barely more than a croak, Nicole stood on her toes and kissed him gently,
"I love you too, even if my species demands that I sleep with others that are not you, I will always adore you," She said, making sure that he truly understood what she said before wrapping her arms around him and hugging him, pressing her cheek to his warm chest as she fought off her own tears that threatened to fall. The two of them stood there, holding one another, for a few moments before Nicole pulled away and took a deep breath to calm the building lump of sadness that was rising through her throat, urging her to cry. But, with a great strength, she pushed her feelings down and took Mark by the hand, leading him to the bed and laying him down so she could lay on his chest.
"I love you," Mark said, his voice more stable now, but he still sounded as if he was being crushed by sadness,
"I love you too, baby," Nicole said, nuzzling into his neck and nipping it until he laughed loudly and told her to stop, so Nicole did, giving him a kiss on the cheek and cuddling him again, content knowing that he was happy again. There they stayed, sleeping together contently for what remained of the night.I hope you enjoyed this story, I had a lot of fun writing it and trying to develop a slow romance. I don't think it worked perfectly, but I succeeded in some parts, I think. Anyway, leave your opinions in the comments, was it cute? What did you like about the characters? What did you dislike? Go ahead and leave raw opinions about the story in the comments, I want to know how to improve. Peace!
