South France - 80s

Between lavanders and girl's white dresses, Timothee was trying to concentrate. As a spie, he was laying on the belly and staring at the shirtless man who was dancing on his balcony, not that far from where our boy was snooping. As he thought, this mysterious always-happy man lives alone and spends his whole life dancing. It could be impossible with a wife.
The stems of flowers were as tall as Timothee could hide behind them and staring at that man without being seen. Suddenly, the music from the balcony stopped and the lad returned to his house. It was time for Timothee to go home. Dusk started to cover the lavander field and the brown haired boy stood up. His mother would be angry if she knew what was doing his son during all the day.
He could go to the pool with all his friends, it was summer holidays after all !
Their house was not really far from the beach, with its light blue color.

The sky was dark, and Timmy had to go home. He was running as fast as possible because he was already late for the dinner. The sound of the ground under his shoes resounded in the empty street. The flower smell was gone and the golden sun too.
He had the impression that he was going in circles, so panick invaded him. Timothee suddenly heard footsteps. The person was behind him so he started to go faster, better be careful, but the footsteps accelerated too.
Sooner later, the unknown person behind him overhauled him and put his hand on Timmy's shoulder.
He turned tail and saw a tall guy.
He recognized his face. He was sweating and breathless. Timothee was in front of the dancing-machine man, the one he stares at every single day.

" - I'm sorry boy, do you have the name of the street we're in ? I'm lost.
- I am too. We have a common point.
- Excuse me ?
- I mean.. eh, I can help to find your way, I come here every summer, I know every impasse, said Timothee with a proud face.
- So... can you explain the fact that you're lost too ? sniggered the man.
- Yes,... I mean..
- You mean ?
- My mother always says that if I get lost, I just have to follow the sea and I'll always find my way.
- It's a beautiful sentence, whispered the outsider to Timothee's ear.
- What do we wait then ? "

The two men followed the lights from the floor-lamps without saying anything.

" - What's your name ? asked the man.
- The boy next door.
- Interesting. Mine is Armie.
- Nice to meet you Armie. Without joking, mine is Timothee.
- Ah you're french ? It's weird, you don't even sound like all of these frog-eaters.
- It's weird because you live here, he replied with a rictus.
- I'm here because French architecture is a real treasure.
- So frog-eaters are not as bad as you think. "

Moonlight was lightning Armie's masculine face and his blue eyes were dancing in the night as two little sparks. They walked for about fifteen minutes and finally saw the beach.
It was way much beautiful during night.
This view was really romantic and magical, thought Timothee.
Armie took off his yellow shirt, which revealed a body sculpted in the rock.

"- Aren't you coming with me ? Water isn't that cold !"
- I thought you were looking for your house ! screamed Timothee with his hands around his mouth, as a megaphone, to be heard by Armie.
- Just a swim, I'm not huried ! "

The young boy looked at the surroundings and took off his shirt too. Armie was already far from the coast, in the dark water.
The cold breeze scratched his naked torso.

" - Hey ! Don't go that far ! You're going to be eaten by the sharks, just a small reminder...!"
The man replied something by yelling but his answer got covered by the sound of the black waves.
Timothee stepped forward to rejoin the water. A swear word escaped from his lips. The water was as cold as it burned his feet.

" - You said it was warm, liar, whispered Timmy."
Stars were giving glitters in the sea and the pale foam was covering his knees.
He saw Armie coming back to the coast. He was shivering and his hairs were ruffled, as an angry cat.
" - I thought Americans never got cold, he said with a cunning little smile.
- I underestimated France's water temperature..."

Timothee threw his shirt on him and said ;
" - Now, if you agree, I propose to leave and go home. You're enough clever to find your way home by yourself, I think. My mother is probably going to call the police because I'm still outside, I don't want her to faint, if you know what I mean.
- Ah, don't give me orders, you look like my father. "
Armie looked at Timothee while putting on his cold and wet shirt and left. His silhouette walked straight ahead, became a small spot in the night and disappeared.

" - Okay, I think it's my turn to finally go home.. "
But he stayed watching his naked feet for a while before to climb the dune to access to the path, under the scarlet sunrise.
