All the way back home, Natalie did not even produce a single sound from her mouth. Jazmine knew Eric was on his mind. She was always the type to think upon minor issues genuinely. Her childish mind was unable to differentiate between the important and unimportant issues. However, Jazmine let Natalie think of the night in peace.
He had looked at her in a strange way. Natalie knew he adored her, but why? She did all she could to flush the thought out of her little brain and sleep but she just couldn’t. She shifted her directions as she lay in her bed. Tonight, her trousers were uncomfortable, he shirt seemed baggy than usual and the sheets were scratchy. It was all so irritating.
She left her bed as she huffed in irritation. Why did she feel this much of unrest? What was going on? Maybe it was her sixth sense. Something life changing was to come and for sure.
…………………………………
Her eyes split open when she felt soft fur on her skin. It sent shivers down her spine. She noticed Bell, their family cat on her bed. Screaming at the top of her voice, she hushed Bell down her bed. She never liked her indeed not any cat. They were just disgusting.
‘’Get out of my room or else!’’, before she could proceed with her warning, she heard her mother.
‘’For heaven’s sake I have been waking you up from the past hour and the cat woke you up in a minute! I must say Bell, impressive!’’, her mother patted Bell.
When she says hour it means two minutes. Natalie’s tired mind thought.
‘’Was there anything you wanted me to do, mother? Please let me sleep.’’ The begging tone of Natalie was not enough for her mother to melt. Instead, she asked her to go to the office with her father and bring back the money he would give her.
This was going to be a tough day. Yawning with her mouth wide open at the breakfast table, her father was two minds if she would be able to walk to the car.
‘’I am fine, dad!’’, Natalie gave a reply to his expression.
Natalie managed to sleep a bit on the way to her dad’s office.
‘’I will follow you in a while.’’
‘’Surely’’, her dad smiled at her and left.
Before going inside, she headed to the backside. Once she was little, she had found a puppy, hurt on his knee. Her mother disallowed her to keep the little creature at home. Then she requested her father to keep him in the office. From that day onwards, she was her only pet, Louis.
‘’Hey there, gentleman! How is my baby? Oh you have surely grown up!’’, Natalie could barely hide her surprise. Louis had actually grown a lot since her last visit.
Spending a little more time playing with Louis, she realized it was about time she went to her father, get the money and head home to sleep. Walking through the corridors, she met several people she knew. The one always in black, Seles and the one wearing red lipstick, Hayley waved at her and she waved back.
Two steps away from the office room of her father, she heard men talking in his room. At first she was hesitant to go in the room but then she opened the door. Flipping the little hair from her face, she confronted, Eric? Her eyes went wide with the thought that he was so near his family. He kept staring at her eyes for a while before her father intruded.
‘’Natalie, what perfect timings. I was just telling Morsel about you.’’ Then she shifted his gaze to Morsel, Eric’s father. ‘’This is Natalie, my daughter.’’
‘’Oh you have grownup so much!’’, he laughed pointlessly.
Not that I have another option, mister! Natalie was confused to the extent that she could not figure how to react. In return to the comment she only smiled.
‘’Dad, please give me the money so I can leave.’’
‘’Are you that sleepy?’’, Morsel questioned.
Her eyes were sleepy she knew but were that visible she never did know. Her father gave her the money and when she was about to leave, Morsel broke in.
‘’Eric can drop you. I know you would walk home.’’
No. Natalie did not want it to happen again. She had to stop it. It was better for her to walk miles than to sit in his Porche again.
‘’No, it is fine. I will go myself. Have other things to do as well.’’, when she said that she saw Eric pause while standing up- disappointment plastered all over his face.
Running out of the office, Natalie took her mobile phone out and rang Jazmine.
‘’You have no freaking idea how close he is to me!’’, Natalie let out once she was sure Jazmine was listening. ‘’He was in my dad’s office and his father talked to my dad like they were best friends!’’
She paused. She stopped jogging. She put her phone away from her ear. Her eyes were glued on- God knew what but her mind was thinking a little too much.
……………………………………
‘’Jazmine, what if he is my dad’s best friend?’’, Natalie shrugged while she looked straight at her best friend.
‘’That is near impossible, Nate. You had never seen him before. Besides, if his father was your father’s best friend, wouldn’t you know?’’, Jazmine gave her the ‘as-a-matter-of-fact’ look.
She was right to but only to some extent. Natalie was fully aware of the politics in her dad’s business. She had to find a way to figure out why Eric came down the spotlight out of nowhere and soon.
Sorry for late updates guys....
