~•~Lindsey's P.O.V
I gasp and recoil quickly. This was too weird.
"Who-who are you?!" I demand.
He shot us a dazzling grin and sheepishly rubbed his chestnut hair. "I'm Triston..." Serena narrowed her eyes and for a fragment of a second I saw suspicion but it quickly vanished. Triston grinned again inclined his head towards us, "You are...?"
"Uh... I'm Lindsey and this is my best friend Serena."
"Pleasure." Serena cut in icily.
"Excuse us for one sec." I drag Serena behind some rocks. "What the heck?!" I whisper, "Why don't you like him?"
Serena looked reluctant.
"I don't like him... I know it's weird but he gives off a bad vibe. It's not the normal kind either. Maybe it's one of my powers or maybe it's not, but can we PLEASE stay clear of him?"
"Don't be ridiculous." I sniff haughtily. "You're just jealous that he likes me. Maybe you should find someone else now because he's my friend and there's nothing your "he's bad news" act can do about it." I know I'm being a horrible bitch, but I can't stop.
"WHAT?!" Serena's screech echoed around us and tears fill her eyes.
"Lindsey how could you say things like that to me?!" She turned and dived into the waves, spraying me with foam. I turn away and make no effort to stop her.~•~
Serena's P.O.V
I pumped my tail as fast as I could, jetting through the ocean like a torpedo. The surrounding water took all the tears from my eyes as soon as they formed leaving the sea just a tiny bit saltier.
How dare Lindsey talk to me that way?! How DARE she?! 'She had no right to say that' I thought bitterly. 'Why does everything have to be over the top with her' I thought, sniffling a little.

I reached a reef in a few minutes, my speed declined as I drew closer the the bright coral and flitting fish. The water above me sparkled and made ever-shifting patterns on the white, wave sculpted sand just a few inches below me. My tail glittered and flashed and a smile spread across my face.
'I'm a mermaid' I thought, 'I have powers! I can get through this without Lindsey' But then another thought grew in my mind, Triton. Would he hurt her? I tried to counter attack the ballooning worry. 'No, Lindsey can take care of herself, she doesn't even deserve my help. She's strong.'
I didn't know how wrong I was...
