Axell
"Yeah, Dad, I know... Right... Yeah I love you too, bye." I hang up on my dad, put on my headphones, and start listening to some music. Looking around, walking down the street of campus, I smile to myself. This is my first year in college, and I've got a football scholarship and a spot on the team as quarterback. Money is tight in my family, and the only reason I'm even here is because of this scholarship. I just got off my plane and took a bus here, to Harmon University, in Southern California.
Getting to my new dorm, I walk up the stairs carrying my suitcase and guitar, and start to look for my room. The administrations office told me I'd have a roommate, but I can't remember his name. I can hear music blasting through the hallway, despite the fact that I'm listening to my own music that's cranked up pretty high. I pray that it isn't coming from my room. While I love music, the last thing I need is a roommate who blasts music 24/7. Finding my room, I'm realize the music isn't coming from my room, but the room next door.
Great. I think to myself while rolling my eyes.
I take my key out and open the door, to find a guy with sweatpants and a t-shirt cooking something in the small kitchen squished into the corner. He says something, but I can't hear what, so I pause my music and rest my headphones on my shoulder.
"Sorry?" I say
"I said hey" He laughs. "I'm Cole. Are you Axell?"
"Yep, that's me. So we're roommates I guess?"
"According to the administrations office we are." He answers. He places what he was cooking onto a plate, which turns out to be pasta. "Want some?" He asks
"I'd love some, thanks. I'm starving. All I've had to eat for the past five hours is a tiny pack of stale pretzels from the airplane."
He laughs and hands me a plate while we go sit down and the table. I look around the dorm. It's small, with a couch and tv in the corner and a table which we're now sitting at. Down the hall there's three doors, which I assume lead to the bedrooms and a bathroom. I turn back to the steaming plate of pasta in front of me and start to eat.
"This is delicious!" I say through mouthfuls.
"Thanks." Cole says. "I love to cook."
"At least one of us can cook, I can't cook to save my life." I laugh. "Before I came here I was worried my roommate wouldn't be able to cook either, and we would both starve."
"Maybe I can teach you some stuff." Cole laughs. "Hey did you happen to see any coffee shops on your way here? I could really use some of the stuff."
"Yeah, actually I saw a place. I'd love some coffee too, but could you wait up for me? I'm just gonna take a quick shower." I say.
"Yeah, no problem." Cole replies. "The bathroom is the second door to the left. I already took the room next to it, if that's okay?"
"Yeah of course." I get up from the table and bring my plate over to the sink and give it a quick clean. Then, I bring my guitar and suitcase to my room. It's surprisingly pretty big, with a bed, desk, dresser, and closet inside. After a quick shower, I pull on some jeans, my gray vans, and white t-shirt with an open plaid long sleeve shirt over it, and my black SnapBack. I grab by headphones and rest them on my shoulders, even though I won't be able to listen to music because I'll be with Cole, but because it helps me feel more comfortable.
I step out of my room to see Cole sitting on the couch on his phone.
"Ready?" He asks.
"Yep." We start towards the cafe, talking on the way. On our way, I learn that Cole is from New Jersey, and like me, got a scholarship here for football, and a place on the team as wide reciever. He's got a little sister, and plays the drums. He learned to cook from his grandma, before she passed away, and he used to play hockey.
After about a 10 minutes walk we arrive at the cafe I spotted on my way to the dorm. It's called Espresso Express, and has a sort of rustic vibe to it, with lights hanging outside by the outdoor seating. We make our way inside, and out of nowhere, I slam into something. I look up to realize it's a girl, and I've knocked her over.
"Shit! I'm so sorry! Are you okay? Here let me help you up." I stick out my hand to help her.
"I'm alright, thanks." She accepts my had and I pull her up. I can't help but feel something strange as my hand encloses hers.
Once she's up, she brushes her blondish-brown hair out of her face, and I'm met with the most beautiful face I've ever seen. She has deep brown eyes, that I could stare into forever, and a few light freckles splashed across the bridge of her nose. Her beautiful hair cascades down her back like a waterfall.
"Holy shit. Wow." I mumble quietly to myself
"Shit, do I have something on my face?" She says. Her voice, is beautiful, like an angel, and despite her question, I continue to stare at her in awe.
"Hey Axell, you good, bro?" Cole's voice and a light punch to my shoulder snaps me out of my trance.
"Huh? I mean, no, you don't have anything on your face." I say embarrassed.
She's got really pretty eyes I think to myself.
"Thanks." She laughs, and I mentally facepalm, realizing I said that out loud. Her laugh is even better then her voice, like a thousand symphonies, or angels singing down from heaven. "You've got really pretty eyes too." She smiles.
After a few moments of us staring into each other's eyes, Cole clears his throat. "Well, we better be going now."
"Right!" I say snapping of my trance, once again. "It was nice meeting you, um..."
"Jamie. And it was nice to meet you too." She smiles, say goodbye, and walks over to her somebody who I guess is her friend. Her friend leans over, whispers something in Jamie's ear, who starts to blush. With her friend laughing, and Jamie blushing profusely, they walk out the door to sit outside. Cole and I order our coffee, and I glance nervously at Cole, who's barely said anything after the whole Jamie incident.
"Fuck, man, why you smiling like that?" I ask.
Cole just smirks at me. "You totally liked that chick."
"What? Psh, what the hell you talking about? I don't like her, I just met her! But like, she is beautiful, and her laugh is so hot."
Cole looks at me, looking like he's trying his best not to burst out laughing.
"Crap, I said that out loud, didn't I?"
"If I didn't know any better, I'd say you've the feels for this girl." Cole laughs as we start walking back to our dorm, coffee in hand. "Hey there's a party tonight at some sorority house. Wanna come? I can't wait to get some new chicks in bed with me."
I snort at him, thinking how much me and Cole are alike, and agree to go to the party.
