"hey bro, what's wrong?" joshua asked from the other side of the table.

"it's nothing." vernon continued to poke his lunch with his fork.

"come on... i know somethings wrong. is it about your dad?" everyone else at the table nodded in agreement.

"yeah, it is." vernon sighed, "I can't believe he passed away so quickly like that."

"you can't fix your dad's death, but you can't try to be happier!" seokmin smiled, hoping to make the boy smile as well.

"you're not helping." everyone said in synchronization, causing seokmin to jump and get up to throw out his lunch.

"come on Vernon, cheer up. be sappy when you're at home." jihoon said, getting glares from joshua.

"don't be like that jihoon." joshua hugged vernon, with the intent of comforting him, but instead making him feel uncomfortable.

"i'm fine guys, don't worry."

joshua frowned and felt worry for vernon.

"hey, vernon, you know if you need i can get my mom to drive you home or you can stay over." joshua continued to eat his food (I almost typed phone instead of food).

everyone at the table had sudden smirks on their faces went "oOOoOOoh"

"shut the fuck up before i throw all y'alls asses oUT" vernon spoke up causing all of them to back off.

vernon had smiled for the first time that day, causing joshua to smile as well.

"thanks guys, you guys really brightened my day" vernon said eating quickly seeing as he knew the period was going to end.

the bell rung, causing everyone to quickly get up, except for joshua, who had hesitated since he didn't want to walk with vernon to class today,, seeing as he didn't want to flush in front of his crush.

he's had a crush on vernon for years,, his feelings only grew when vernon came out to him. but ever since his mother started to neglect him he's been alot more secretive and, just, sad.

whilst daydreaming he heard a faint, "joshua hong." from mrs. kang calling him out.

"oh, sorry i-" mrs. kang want back to writing on the board and wrote in english, 'your mom told me.'

of course, no one could understand it, seeing as vernon was not in this class with him. but realizing whay she meant, caused joshuas cheeks to burn up and he automatically smashed his head on the desk.

mrs. kang burst out into laughter as the other students were still confused.

"i know you're close with my mom but this is a stretch..."

mrs. kang finally got herself to stop laughing as the bell rang.

"what was that?" seokmin walled up to a burning red joshua.

"nothing." he said, whilst angrily picking up his backpack and walking out.

《time_skip; end of day》

"ayohomiejoewhatsuphoeee" a brown haired boy walked out from the front door, walking to the wrong person of course.

"oh- im not who you're looking for bobby-" vernon said, honestly confused.

bobby widened his eyes and realized that vernon was nOt JiNhWaN and ran.

"oh man- again?" joshua came up behind vernon, scaring the boy.

"yep." vernon smiled back to his best friend and grabbed his hand.

of course, this action nearly blew joshuas cover and made him blush, but he hid it.

"gAYYY" mark yelled from behind them, but they ignored it and made their way to the bus while donghyuk tried to calm down his boyfriend.

on the bus, vernon thought about if he should ask to stay over joshuas again, since friday was always the day his mother got drunk and yelled at him, but he would feel like a burden, so he kept quiet.

"remember, if you want to come over you can."

it was like Joshua read his mind, he couldn't believe it.

"is it okay if i stay over every friday?" vernon said and played with his fingers.

"of course!" joshua was honestly concerned about how his mother treated him, so he felt like he had to say yes.

"to be honest, i wanted you to come over today. because i wanna hang out with you." joshua put his head on his friends shoulder, and smiled.

"oh, well thank you again.."

they spent the bus ride just enjoying eachothers company, smiling.

as they reached joshuas house, they spotted a familiar figure fumbling around, as if losing consciousness.

it was vernons mother.

joshua grabbed vernons arm and ran, hoping she wouldn't spot them.

fortunately, she did not, seeing as she is pretty tipsy, so she doesn't really have much common sense right now.

they ran into joshuas house, panting from all the running they did.

"uh so, are you okay?" the two walked up the front stairs from his 'lobby' room (that's what they named it when they were kids, so they thought it was cute and continued calling it that) and walked upstairs together.

"yeah i'm fine, why?" vernon half smiled, hoping to hide what he wanted to say.

"no, you're not. tell me, vernon, what's going on at home."

how'd he know? joshua always knew everything about him, it was honestly strange to vernon, but he liked it. he liked it alot.

"no I'm really fine,, but i have a question." vernon scratched the back of his neck, as if embarrassed for a strange reason.

"what happened?"

"uh so, if i fell for you, and like, liked you, how would you feel?"

the whole room fell into an awkward silence.
