Embers fade on a swamp soaked log
The unbearably hot, dry wind occasionally causes them to spark back up
But conditions remain unfavorable to flame
The sickenly damp, rotted wood is almost appealing in the moonlight
Yet with the harsh rays of the sun it is exposed
A cracked, deformed contortion of what was once so very alive and clear
Whittled away by the slime and algae
And by those blasted embers that refused to die out
Biding their time as they lazily singe through the bark that has managed to stay dry enough to burn
I no longer remember what my original expectations were
Just the vague idea that some promise of life was left unfulfilled
Leading me to a place of anger, guilt, confusion and fear
Hypnotising me into a numbly belligerent state
Hopeful, doubting, naive
I crumble sometimes in the unsettling stillness of the night
When sleep eludes me and the promise of a new day threatens my peace
Bound by the limitations of my own mind
With the strands of a life that couldn't fulfill its promise.
I love you.
Those three words didn't mean a thing,
I thought we were meant to be,
But I guess it was just a fling,
There's a wall around my heart, stopping me from crying,
But there's something inside of me,
That feels like it's dying.
You were everything, I needed, care for,
I chose you, but now my heart is sore,
You will never realize, that you were my best friend too,
but believe me when I say this,
I really did love you.
