Aurora's POV
Peace. The word seems so simple but, so hard to do. There are very few times that there actually is peace. People in the human world think that they barely get peace, they should see the werewolf world.
Oh wait... I should probably explain what I mean by that.
Remember all of the people that were proclaimed crazy because they thought their cousin or neighbor were werewolves. Well, they were probably wrong. There was a very slim chance they were right. The key word: right. Werewolves actually do exist. We only make up around 10% of the worlds population.
So any way I am getting off topic. Peace. Werewolves are never in a time of peace. If they are either we need to come together to fight vampires or something real big is about to happen. I was hoping it was we were fighting vampire. They are always so easy to beat but, nope! Probably the biggest bombshell that has ever happened in werewolf history is about to happen, and with just my luck I'm in the center of it.1 year ago
"Hey Aurora hurry up! You don't want to be late to your own birthday party!" My mother yells from the kitchen. I love my mother to death but, she can be a pain in the butt. My mother is short or how she likes to say "petite". My mother has brown hair that is a bit wavy she normally wears it up though. Then she has these striking blue eyes that demand respect from anyone that see's her. She can also be a bit wild. She is my mother but, she will definitely be the one women all up in a 6 foot guys face about something she doesn't agree with. Thank god she is that way or I don't know who would keep my dad in check. My dad is the alpha of our pack. Like every other Alpha is hot tempered, protective, and very strong. Apparently my dad is on the shorter sides of the Alpha's. He's 6' 1". I really don't understand. So anyway enough about the parents.
As you can tell from what my mother said today is my birthday. I am turning 18. So not only and I going to be a legal adult but, I can find my mate. Most girls want their mate to come and pick them up off their feet and live happily ever after. I'm that girl. I won't admit it to my family and pack but, I really want to find my mate. So hopefully I find my mate. Since my dad wants me to find my mate he invited tons of people. I know everyone from the pack is going to be in attendance and some of the unmated wolves from other packs. I'm pretty sure there is also going to be all of the unmated Alpha's but my dad won't tell me. The only reason a bunch of people are coming is so they could try to find their mates so they might not even want to be my mate they just want to find a mate.
"Aurora if you don't get down here in one minute I'll make sure to embarrass you in front of your mate!" My amazing and gentle mother yelled up the steps.
"I'm coming!" I yell down to my mother. It took my a solid two minutes to get down stairs. It normally only takes a couple seconds but you try hopping on one foot while trying to get a heel on. It's not fun. I hate heels but, I have to dress fancy since it's a "fancy" party. I just wanted a bonfire so my parents agreed after I can have my friends and hopefully my mate over for a bonfire. But nope. I had to put on a fancy dress and white hight heels. I do have to admit the dress is really nice.My parents wanted me to go full out since "first impressions matter". As I made my way down stairs I saw my parents waiting for me.
"Honey, you look amazing." My mother gushes as her hands fly to cover her mouth.
"Thank you Mom." I say as I turn to my father to see his reaction.
"You can't go to the ball. I don't want all of the unmated wolves to see my daughter." My father exclaims.
"What? Please tell me you're joking." I say hoping it was just a joke.
"You didn't let me finish. I don't you to go to the ball because you look breathtaking." He finishes smiling.
"Aww thanks Dad." I say hugging him while trying to not mess up my makeup. It's at a very minimal but you can't go to a party and not wear make up. "So how is this going to work?"
"So first you are going to head down the steps and smell. If you smell your mate go into that general vicinity of him. Then try to get a dance with the lucky man. If you don't smell him, just go around introducing yourself and being a good host." My Dad explains.
"Ok that isn't that hard. Just smell." I say to myself.
"You ready honey?" My Mom asks.
"Let's go." As I walk to the ballroom I can feel myself getting more and more anxious. What if he doesn't want me? What if he's a prick? What if isn't even there?
'Stop thinking like that' my wolf Charlotte scolds as I couldn't help but let my mind wander. Once I got to the doors to enter the ballroom. I took in one deep breath and stepped into the room. As I prepared I took in one big sniff. Everyone in the room could probably hear it. As I finished my sniff I got my answer. The one answer I was dreading for the past 18 years. There was no splendid smell that made my toes curls or that made me smile. There was none of that. There was no mate.
