I didn't look back as we drove off. I didn't look at mike either. I didn't want him to see the tears welling up in my eyes. I stared out the window, looking but not seeing the objects, people, and stores that passed by. Why did he have to do that? I didn't understand the brain of a boy. They want you but they don't. They think girls are difficult? They all need a reality check.
"Issa?" My train of thought stopped for a second, noticing that I was still sitting in my seat even though we'd been parked for almost ten minutes.
"Sorry. I wasn't paying attention." Mike looked away.
"You don't say." He snared sarcastically.
"What's your problem Mike? You can't see someone unhappy for five freaking seconds of your god damn life?" I yelled. "You know, I've about had it with your attitude." I said, getting out of the car.
"Issa, where are you going? Your house is still 15 minutes away!" He yelled as I walked away.
"I know how to walk." A tear ran down my cheek which made me want to get away even faster. I looked back and saw his car accelerate, but instead of driving off he parked it on the side of the rode, got out, and followed me.
"Issa! Issa hold on." He started jogging when I wouldn't slow down. And when he finally caught up, "Issa, lighten up, will you? I didn't say anything bad."
" No, your just an ass, nothing big, you know."
"How am I being an ass? I pick you up from your stupid dance classes, I see some leotard freak running after you so I ask you how you're doing and all you do is ignore me and I'M the ass?"
"Yes, Mike, you are the ass. You have no common sense on how to treat a girl."
"Yeah but you're not a girl. You're Issa."
"Well thanks. Why don't you go off, drive away, find an actual girl, and let me go be an "Issa" all on my own." I knew he would never leave me alone even if I told him to so I took off my shoes and ran as fast as I could. Fortunetly he didn't follow.
___~*~___
I walked block after block, and thirty minutes later I noticed I was not at ALL going in the direction of my house. Looking around I saw a sign that sat perfectly clean and straight on park grounds that said "Beverly Hills." "Welcome to 90210." I stated to myself loudly. I walked for another twenty minutes until I came upon two brass gates that were three times my size. I walked to the side and saw a red button. I pressed the button and someone spoke.
"Can I help you?" I looked around but quicky noticed someone was speaking from an intercom over the button.
" Uhm yes. I'm Isabel." I spoke softly.
"Do you have an appointment Ms.?" Appointment? Who was this guy?
"Uhm no. I'm Isabel as in Isabel Brogan." There was a short pause and then the gates started opening.
"Welcome." The voice said. I took three steps and A gold cart appeared.
"Hello Ms. Brogan, Please take a seat. it is a long way to the top." What the... I gave it no second thought and got in. Five minutes after driving up the biggest hill EVER we came up to a beautiful estate. " Mr. Brogan is waiting inside. Ersala will show you the way." A short, black haired lady dressed in a green and white maid uniform appeared.
"Please, come." She said with a wide grin. I got off the cart and headed behind her. We came up to two grand entrance doors. She took a out a plastic card and scanned it on a machine next to the doors. There was a buzzing sound and she wuickly opened the doors and gestured me to go in.
It was grand. There were two staircases right in the foyer with a crystalized diamond chandalier hanging in between. The marble floors glistened and completed the room. " It's beautiful." I whispered.
"I know. Come, Mr. Brogan is in his office." She said. I follwed her up to the bottom step. "I was informed to let you go on your own from here. His office is on the left when you get up. The door is made of glass so I'm sure you won't have a problem figuring it out." She said, bowed, and walked away in the opposite direction. I walked up the stairs and down the left hall which was decorated with ornate furniture and paintings. At the end of the hall there was a glass door and I could make out a desk and a man behind it. I stopped where I was and just stared. He also stopped what he was doing and looked up. We stayed that way for two minutes before he got up and walked to the door.
He opened the door and stepped once. "Hi." he said softly. A tear ran down my cheek.
"Hey dad." I said. He walked over and hugged me. It was everything I could have needed and wanted.
"I've missed you so much. I think about you everyday sweety." He said rubbing my head.
"Me too, daddy." I said holding on tighter.
"Come, let's talk in my office." He said. I followed behind.
We sat and I couldn't hold it in anymore. "Why? Why did you leave mom and I?" I yelled and it took him by surprise.
"Why did I what? Honey, I never left. Your mother did. She said she didn't want you to live the life I do. She ran away with you. I had people looking for the both of you everywhere! And the day I found you guys I wasn't allowed to see you but she filed to the court so that I wouldn't be able to be anywhere near you. I got the court to remove it about five years ago but she threatened me. Shesaid she'd ruin you if I ever came in contact. I would NEVER want that for you." It all came too fast.
"Sh-sh-she did WHAT?" I got up from my seat but held on to it for balance. "Why? How?" I was more confused than anything in my whole life.
"Sweety, you're turning pale. Are you okay?" He pressed a red button near his desk. "Help. Office, now. Send the nurses." And that's when everything went black.
