I sigh as I quickly get up from my bed and walk over to the closet. I close my eyes and rest my head against the wooden frame.
I start my job today but that doesn't mean that I am excited for it. I was told to wear this skimpy outfit which is completely unpractical for cleaning in.
As far as I know, the guy is married so unless he has a son or something, the outfit seems pointless.
It isn't like I have to wear a maid uniform but I have to dress in a short skirt and some sort of crop top everyday. I don't own much as I am waiting for my first paycheck so I guess that he will have to survive with a tight blush colored skirt and a white off-shoulder crop top.
It is probably disappointing but I don't care. I finish off the look with a pair of sandals since it is pretty warm outside considering that we live in Southern California.
I grab my wallet, keys, and flip phone as I walk outside to see the car that he had given to me. It's really nice of him to give me a car to use since I don't own one but I always feel bad using it.
I get in the car and drive over to the house which is about fifteen minutes away from my apartment that I live in with my parents and siblings.
I sigh as I watch the sky slowly change its hues as the sun begins to peek into the early morning sky.
I pull into their driveway and run my hands through my curled hair and turn off the car.
"Just remember," I whisper to myself. "This isn't a permanent job, it's just for now."
I suddenly look up to see Jason standing at the door. Well, he's not Jason anymore but rather Mr. Smith.
"Good morning Mr. Smith," I say with a smile as I step out of the car and lock it, walking towards the open house door.
"Morning Sage," he says with a smile as I step into the house. "Let me introduce you to my wife," he says as he leads me into what I assume is the living room.
On the couch is a gorgeous women who is sitting, reading a novel and drinking a cup of coffee.
"It's a pleasure to meet you," I say as I go to shake her hand as he looks up at me and smiles.
"My my, that's quite the outfit you have there," she says with a soft laugh as she shakes my hand.
"I'm sorry about that," I say as I suddenly feel embarrassed. "I guess I was just confused by the dress-code."
"It's fine, don't worry about it. I'm sure Nick will be thrilled about it," she says with a soft laugh and I smile.
"Nick?" I ask, suddenly feeling a bit behind.
"Ah, yes. Nickolas is our son, he's around your age so I'm sure you two will get along. I believe that he already left for school but you might see him this afternoon," Mrs. Smith says with a smile as she walks over to me.
"I look forward to meeting him Mrs. Smith," I say with a polite smile.
"Oh, please. Call me Sandra," she says with a smile and leads me over to the kitchen. "Since I asked Jason to hire a maid for me, I pretty much know everything that you need to since I was previously doing all of the cleaning."
"That must have been quite time consuming," I say with a laugh.
"Let's just say my back has seen better days. Anyways, I don't expect you to do everything as I like to keep busy but if you do stumble along extra time, I would really appreciate it if you spent time with our younger kids."
"Of course," I say with a smile.
"They're sleeping right now but we have a little girl named Sara and a baby boy named Liam. They're both not in school yet and I'm already sure that Sara will adore you," Sandra says as she opens up a cabinet that is filled with cleaning supplies.
"Well, I hope she does," I say with a smile as I begin to pull products out. "I can start with cleaning the rooms and I'll do the laundry after. I can also cook so if you need help with that, just let me know," I say with a smile and Sandra just nods.
"I will make sure to let you know but don't work too hard on your first day," Sandra says as I laugh. I grab the basic supplies and head into the living room.
They have quite a large house so I already know that I have my work cut out for me.
I take around twenty minutes in each room, keeping in mind that I have to go back later to
mop and vacuum. As I am cleaning Jason's office, I hear a soft cough behind me.
I turn around to see a blonde little girl who is clutching a stuffed animal.
"Well, hello there," I say as I put down the paper towel and turn to face her.
"Hi," she says softly as comes a little further into the room.
"I'm Sage, who are you?" I ask even though I guessed that she was Sara.
"Sara," she says as she comes closer to me.
"Well, hello Sara," I say with a smile as I bend down so that I am close to eye level with her.
"What are you doing here?" She asks as I can still tell that she is unaware of what to think of me.
"Well, I'm helping Mommy and Daddy with cleaning and other things," I say with a little laugh.
"Can you help me?" She asks and I just melt at her innocent face.
"Of course, what do you need help with?" I asks as Sara comes closer to me.
"Well, my bear has a rip in it," she says as she turns the stuffed animal for me to see the obvious tear in the fabric of the stuffed animal.
"Do you want me to fix it?" I ask and she gently nods her head. "Alright, lets go find the sewing kit," I say as I gently stand up and I reach my hand out of Sara to grab.
If I had to guess, she was around three years old and I couldn't help but wonder why there was such a big age gap between their oldest son, Nick, and the little ones.
