This was the reality of our situation. We could either run, or fight. If we ran, we could easily lose the three burly men circling us. If we stayed and fought, we could take them, but would we succeed?
I did know one thing.
I was tired of running.
I looked to the girl who had become the best friend I had ever had in such a short amount time on my left. She was squeezing my hand so tightly, I swear it lost all feeling.
My head nodded curtly as she looked at me. I squeezed her hand one last time and released it as I took a step forward.
"Don't move!" One of the men shouted pointing his gun higher at me. The other two followed suit.
"Please," I began,
I prayed Rhea understood what I was trying to do and she would play along.
Taking another cautious step forward I blinked at the man in front of me. The mans body flew into a tree thirty yards in front of us. His body hit the ground with a very loud thump.
He was down.
Rhea was behind me and she raised her hands in front of her and I felt it. The surge of energy, shielding is. Rhea had a small trickle of blood streaming down her left nostril.
One of the remaining two men fired at us but the bullets bounced off the invisible shield that enveloped us.
I pointed at the man who fired who was also closest to me and flicked my wrist. He was in the air screaming. I waved my arm to the farthest side of the forest. I heard the sickening sound of multiple cracks and he went limp as his body collided with the ground.
Dead.
The last guy was tricky, he was bigger than the two combined and he was obviously used to this kind of thing.
He banged his head against the invisible shield.
Once. Twice. Three times and immediately broke through.
I realized then then that he was all muscle. He wasn't just big. He was a strong one.
He grabbed Rhea by the throat and lifted her tiny body off the ground. She screamed as he violently shook her body.
"No!" I shouted tackling the man which was useless and with a push of his arm I was pushed back. Rhea's feet were swinging wildly under her, she was losing air and I saw the light in her eyes start to dim and her feet started to slow their fight.
I looked around frantically trying to find a distraction. I looked to the left and saw the big rock that was a good distance away. Raising my arm toward the rock I closed my eyes, imagining it being lifted off the ground and when I succeeded in doing so, I guided it to hit the back of the man's head.
The man lost his balance but he didn't let go of Rhea. He squeezed her neck tighter which made Rhea's eyes go even wider.
He threw her body to the side when he realized she was no longer moving.
"No! Stop!" I begged again. He began walking towards me. Like a lion stalking it's prey.
He made it to me in three quick strides and grabbed me by the hair. Also lifting me off the ground, screaming in pain feeling the hair follicles ripping from my scalp.
"There's no where to run now little girl," He says menacingly. He threw me to the ground and I screamed again, I definitely broke my arm.
"Please, don't," I murmured.
With my good arm, I tried to drag myself farther away from him. He stepped on my shin and I heard the snap. I screamed and felt the tears stream down my face and knew there was no point. He knelt down with one elbow on his knee. The man tilted his head to the side and clicked his tongue.
"Aw," he mocked. "Feel helpless don't you?"
I spit in his face and he only smirked. "Go to hell!" I seethed.
He placed a hand on the base of my throat and squeezed. Feeling my eyes go wide, I used my good hand to try to pry his fingers off my neck. He was right. I was helpless.
This was how I was going to go.
Everything seemed to be in slow motion at this point. I looked up at the sky, imagining myself in the clouds. A bird glided above us. I was feeling myself slipping as dark spots lined my vision. The man had a sadistic look on his face as he pressed harder on my neck.
The last thing I saw before the darkness completely took me was an orange ball of fire colliding with the mans head.
