As I sat there in the car next to my mom (who seemed to be acting really weird) I tried to remember exactly what happened to me that night.
What caused me to go back in time.

It was cold and windy. My favorite kind of night for a ride.
I tighten my hold on Bryan as we rode. His motorcycle was something to admire. It was dark and sleek. Just like him.
Bryan hadn't been my boyfriend for that long. Only for about a month.
But we've been causing trouble together ever since we met. He picked me up two weeks after I away, I was hitchhiking. I had no plan except to keep moving one foot in front of the other. My fathers death left me with a numbness that made me not care about anything else in this world.
Bryan was the light to my darkness.
His car stopped a few feet in front of me. It was a rusty old pickup truck, but it was cute in a way.
I walked up to the window just as he was rolling it down.
"Hey, you need a lift?" He didn't seem too threatening, but at this point I didn't care.
I nodded my head yes. I opened up the door and jumped into the passenger seat.
He was very surprised by my eagerness. I guess its not everyday you pick up a raggy, tired looking girl off the street - especially one that seems willing enough to get in your old pickup truck.
"Soo.. where to? I don't care how far it is, I'll take you anywhere" I could see that he was kidding around with me, I wanted to laugh, or at least smile, but I couldn't. I ended up just giving him a blank stare.
THIS made him uncomfortable.
"Okayy! So how about I take you to lunch and you tell me what happened 'cause I can see your.. err.. a little upset."
I nodded my head again.
And so that's what we did. I ended up telling him everything, and who knew talking to someone about it would actually help! After I was done telling him my story, he told me his. It turns out that when he was twelve, both of his parents died. I asked him how, but he wouldn't talk about it, so I didn't push.
He helped me discover my inner rebel.
In the months that followed, we were true mutineers. We did everything imaginable together.
Robberies (small ones), various vandalism... You know, romantic stuff.
It took time but our relationship grew everyday, we just didn't realize it. We were too preoccupied with our next "mission".
It wasn't until those days where we were hiding from the police, sitting in silence together, when it became evident...

No, I can't think about that night, those nights. Not right now.
I recognized the road we were on, we were on our way to my old home. Sorry my home in the present or past or….. Ugh I guess I should try not to think about it too much. I lay my head back against the headrest and tried to get my mind off it.
I still can’t believe I blew my second chance.
“Mom, why aren’t we going to the hospital”
