For one week a year, the Tentastic Funfair would stop at your town, and every year so far you had managed to weasel your way out of going. However this year, as you had already used every believable excuse you could think of, you had no choice but to join your friends.

Even without the rides, being in the freezing cold wasn't really your idea of a good afternoon out. You were yet to go on any of the rides, but the thump of the loud music throughout your body and the tingling of the cold air against your face growing painfully stronger was already making you want to leave.
"Hurry up, (y/n). I think that's where you buy the tokens," your friend Yuqi called, grabbing hold of your arm and pulling you in the direction of a small stand. Your other friend Minnie followed shortly behind.
A pretty woman with long ginger hair was stood on the other side of the stand handing the tickets to the customers. You had decided to come when you knew it would be quiet, so you didn't have to wait long until it was your turn. You quickly paid the woman before your friends dragged you over to the first ride.
You looked wearily up at the ride. The bright letters painted onto it's platform read 'The Sizzler.' It definitely wasn't the scariest thing they had, which made you sigh in relief. Knowing your friends, they would have wanted to jump right into the scariest rides, so you were glad that they were being at least a little considerate of your fear.
"Ticket." You were pulled from your thoughts by a man standing in front of you with his hand stretched out and a bored expression on his face. He looked around your age and wore a simple white t-shirt and jeans covered by a jacket. His dyed blond hair was parted down the middle, falling gently into his eyes.
You handed him your ticket before making your way over to your friends who were already getting seated on the ride. Just as you were about to sit down next to Yuqi, the man spoke again.
"It's two to a bench. If no one else comes, you'll have to wait," he told you as you hopped down from the seat.
"Can't I go on on my own?" you suggested. He shook his head.
"It's just the rules," he added, noting your disappointed look.
"Yuqi, why don't you go on with (y/n) after?" Minnie offered on behalf of her friend.
"Why don't you go on with her? I want to go on some good rides next," objected Yuqi.
"Because I don't want to go on with her. She'll be too scared."
/"Wow, some great friends I have,"/you thought bitterly.
The man quickly glanced to the opposite side of the ride where the ride was controlled. You followed his gaze. The man controlling the rides was impatiently staring back at you.
The blond man looked around again, this time behind him to the rest of the rides. It was early in the day so not many people had bothered to come yet. He shrugged.
"I'll go on with you then." He shrugged, walking over to the next bench and leaving you to follow him. You awkwardly sat down next to him as he called over the man controlling the ride. You guessed it was so he could do his job for him.
As the man approached the two of you he gave the blond man a confused look, but didn't say anything. He pulled the bar down in front of you, then quickly made his way back to the other side of the ride, not wanting the other customers to wait any longer.
It was only when the ride slowly began to move that you realised how scared you were. Your hands wrapped around the cold metal bar in front of you and your shoulders tensed. It had been years since you last went on a ride, so you were really hoping that you wouldn't throw up - especially over the stranger that was being so kind to you.
"Relax." You turned to face the man, barely hearing him as loud music started playing from the ride, drowning out any other songs or people. He was smirking at you. Obviously he wouldn't be scared of a ride like this, he worked here after all. You nodded, not bothering to shout over the music.
Once the ride started moving at its full speed you realised that there was nothing to worry about. Your body relaxed and a bright smile appeared on your face. You turned to face the man next to you and saw that he was already looking at you. He had an equally bright smile plastered on his face, contrasting the bored, slightly intimidating look he had earlier. His smile grew noticeably wider once you turned around.
The ride ended quicker than you would have liked, your disappointment surprising even yourself. Your friends rushed to the more exciting rides in their opinion, leaving you to hurry after them. Before you left you managed to quickly thank the man. He only smiled in response.
