The Gigantic building stood proud and tall. The Black tinted glass that adorned the building bounced back the early spring rays of sunlight as if refusing to let anything into the building. At the top right side of the building stood big bold letters ' ROUSHAN COMPANY' written in white.
Fancy name. I complimented in my head.
I walked inside with grace and elegance in my white flats, something I lacked yesterday in those ridiculously high heels. If I could be honest, I walked with grace and elegance of a person that can trip on absolutely nothing. Nothing at all.
My mom used to joke about how I would win first place, had there been an award for tripping. Thankfully, there isn't. But that doesn't save me from the embarrassment.
I still remember that day in university while I was taking a business course. I was supposed to present about a research we did on direct marketing as our freshman year's first assignment so I rose from my seat to go to where the little podium stood. I descended the stairs and Just when I reached to the end of the stairs,Thud, I fell.
Don't ask me what happened after that because I was so embarrassed that day and I was sure my face looked like a strangled easter bunny. Actually, I don't even know how a strangled easter bunny would look but it wouldn't look hot or cute . I am certain I even saw some students getting up from their seat-not to help me-to see what made me trip but since they found nothing they all went to their business ,which was making me the laughing stock of the class.
Anyways, let's put this incident in to one of the endless embarrassing life incidents category of my life and move on. I halted my steps as I just remembered that I don't know the way to his office or anywhere really so I asked the receptionist for directions and she told me to go to the 39th floor and anybody could show me his office.
I continued walking to the elevator after thanking the receptionist. I squished into the already full elevator and kept my black handbag close to my white long sleeve blouse that was tucked into my black knee length pencil skirt with a slit at the back.
The elevator was filled with different kinds of smells. The kind of smell that dances its way into your nose and attacks it mercilessly until you start sneezing. Colognes and perfumes mixed together created this suffocation and urgent need for fresh air.
Finally after countless hours of suffocation (not really),I reached floor number 39. After muttering many 'excuse me's, I was able to get out and immediately sucked big gulps of air to relax my violated nose.
In front of me was a beautiful view of New York city. The busy streets were packed with ant sized people hurrying to work or anywhere their feet could take them. Come to think of it, there is nothing beautiful about packed streets or being in hurry.I could see the different vehicles on the busy street honking because of the morning traffic.
Good thing I came early or I could have been stuck in this traffic.
I decided that maybe now is a good time to find his office and get on with my job. I was standing in the middle of two hallways. Left or Right I couldn't decide.
The sound of a door being opened and closed brought me out of my confused thoughts.
Finally someone to ask for direction!
Laughter and voices floated around the hallways meaning there was more than one person coming so I turned my head to the left to see who came.
“...if it wasn't for my experience of getting things thrown at me, she would have split my head into two!” Said a certain cocky jerk.
“I would really love to meet her! She could be my partner in crime in which you will most probably be the victim.” Said another voice.
“Hey! I almost died and you already have plans to pair up with her and what? Attack me? Your best friend who drags your drunken ass home?!”Said the same jerk.
Right at this moment they noticed that I was standing there. The guy wearing black suit analyzed me with his black eyes, raising his thick eyebrows as in approval and smirked.
“Hottie Hottie.” he said in a seducing tone.
“Dude! She is the one I told you about!” Killian tried to whisper which he totally failed.
“If you were trying to whisper, know that you really suck at it.I heard every word.” I said in a tone that matched my face expression which screamed 'I hate you with my whole and entire existence!'.
“She really hates you...” Said the guy thoughtfully as if sympathising with Killian but he was obviously trying to hold back his laughter.
“You didn't have to rub it in my face,Jason.I understood perfectly the first time she threw her shoe at me.” Said Killian turning his head to his friend.
I silently watched the exchange between them remembering my time when I also had a friend who would annoy me to no end. Seeing that they are not gonna stop talking,I chose to interrupt.
“Hello, I am Eliana Joyce. The new secretary for your friend here.”I said stretching my hand for a handshake and glaring daggers at Killian.
“I'm Jason Adams, share holder and best friend of this stupid guy. Nice to meet you!”He said taking my outstretched hand and kissing my knuckles while Killian said something along the lines of ' always charming girls' and 'that prick'.
“Nice to meet you too.” I said wearing my confident smile.
Working here is going to be awesome!
It was my first day at roushan company that stretched into more days that kept on throwing me into a wheel of changes and things that I've never done before.
