Chapter 1

I sighed as I ran my fingers through my red hair. I have to give Selena a new song before June, and I only have a few months until that day. I sighed and looked at my phone.

*Sel- Hey darling! I'm coming over to talk about the new song!*

Great. She's coming over and I have nothing yet.

Maybe I shouldn't be so harsh on myself. In fact, Sel will understand how difficult this is. It isn't always easy to write something down. I guess I will start writing about my life experiences. But I barely lived, so that isn't much of an option. I sighed. What kind of songwriter can't write a song?"

I grabbed my laptop and went to google.

Let's see now. What can I look up?

Maybe she can do a cover of an old song. Or, she could talk about self-love. Yeah.

I grabbed a pen and notebook and started to write.

"I wouldn't wanna be anybody else.

You made me insecure

Told me I wasn't good enough

But who are you to judge."

As soon as I ended those words, Selena arrived. She knocked on my apartment door and I quickly ran to open it.

"Sel!" I giggled as I hugged her.

"Hey, baby girl!" She hugged back.

"Sorry I didn't answer your text, I was writing some lyrics." I smiled.

"No problem! Let's see what you have so far." She smiled and walked towards my desk. I handed her my notebook, and she looked at the four lines I had written.

"Well, it seems good for a start." She giggled. I laughed nervously.

"It's about self-love, and yeah." I smiled softly.

"Well, let's finish it." She smiled. I nodded.

At the end of the day, we finished writing the song.

"Well, I have to go to a party. Will you come along?" She asked.

"I-I-I. I don't think so, Sel."

"Come on Esther, you need to get out there." She smiled.

"I know Sel, but. I can't ."

"Why not?"

Social anxiety.

"Work is keeping me up."

Liar.

"Come on, you're coming along with me."

"Where are we going anyways?" I groaned.

"A club." She smiled as she pulled me out of my house.
