Chapter 6
Wendy ran her fingers on the silver edging of the book before peeling back the cover. She had almost forgotten about it, between going to the Hook family's office nearly everyday, and the excitement of getting to walk aboard a ship. Even if it was, only a cargo ship. A cargo ship with weapons. Thought Wendy. An opportunity of a lifetime and here was Wendy sitting in the cold of her room trying to read a book.
Book. Right, she was going to read this book. She glanced over the chapter titles. Mermaids, and Indians, and fairies. But one word stuck out the most to Wendy. Pirates. She excitedly turned to the correct page instantly entrapping herself in the adventure.
"Wendy?" Startled, she looked up to find John and Michael neatly seated at the end of her bed. "Could you maybe tell up a story?" Wendy didn't have anymore stories to tell. But she never was one to let her brothers down. And she had already cost them the trip of going to see the ship. So she'd have to tell them the one she was currently reading. She'll make up end! Wendy was good at that. So she began...
Once upon a time, in a faraway land called Neverland- All stories had to start like that. It was just the way it was. An adventurous pirate ruled the seas. With his tough old ship, and terrifying crew, they scared off all creatures to even feel the waves that had rippled from their direction.
"Wendy what was the pirates name?" Michael asked innocently. His name...Oh yes his name!
Evil. Captain.- She separated the words for the dramatic effect. A shadow appeared at her window.
"Peter!" Wendy hopped off the bed.
"Peter? What kind of pirate name is that? Peter..." John and Michael complained. Wendy slid her window open.
"Pirate? Peter? Hardly." Peter stepped through the window.
"What are you doing here?" Wendy questioned regretting her decision to open the window.
"Why I've come to take you to that ship you want to see!" He exclaimed proudly.
"How did you even know about that?" Wendy was starting to find Peter curiouser every minute.
"Do you want me to take you or not?" Peter avoided the question with his own. John and Michael were running around the room with excitement. She couldn't do this to them again...Wendy would have to make it Peter's fault.
"What about Aunt Millicent? How will we get past her?" Wendy challenged. Peter just smiled.
"We'll go out the window!" He answered heading back towards it.
"What about shoes?" She countered. There was no way Wendy was walking all the way to the dock barefoot. Not in this weather. John scuttled out of the room. After a short while he returned with all their shoes. As Wendy slipped hers on she couldn't help but notice Peter had none on. How strange.
"What if Aunt Millicent comes to check on us?" Wendy wouldn't give up this easily. No matter how much she wanted to see the ship. It wasn't that she was opposed to idea of sneaking out to go see it, it was more that Peter was the one to have suggested it. Wendy didn't like acting helpless. No matter what it was for.
"She won't. She's dead asleep on the couch." John reported. He had stopped on the way up at his room to fetch his dear top hat. John handed Michael his teddy bear for the trip.
"But-" Wendy had nothing else to say. It wasn't like Peter was exactly dangerous... She sighed motioning for her brothers to follow Peter. They broke into a fit of celebration. "Keep it down!" Instructed Wendy, climbing out the window herself.
