Chapter one. The Key is The Heart

"Sometimes the heart sees what is invisible to the eye." -H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

I was almost done now. I looked down to see my work, dozen of long gashes, roughly 6 inches long going down the pretty face, and down the body. She's almost dead, the worst part of this is when they die, but it's hard to get around that. With one swift motion I took the knife and started to work on the chest area. I took the cold metal ice pick in my hand, lined it up and gave it a hard hit. I could hear the bones crush and then the blood soon started to pour out in a flowing matter. A few more of those, and the heart would be out. Soon, the precious heart was out, I cradling it to my body like it was a newborn body, and placed it by the wall and wrote in the warm blood on the wall. With that she was dead, I checked. Twice.

"Hello, I'm here for the roommate ad in the paper," I smiled brightly at the young man standing in the doorway. Holding out my hand to shake his. He smiled brightly at me. He looked nice, clean shaved, bright green eyes, brown eyes, about 6 feet tall and scrawny.

"Well hello there, my name is Ethan, come on in," He said to me, holding the door open for me to walk in. "I'm Elizabeth, but you can call me Liz," I said, throwing a look behind my shoulder. I walked around the apartment. It was nice, spacious, styled nicely, good furniture, amazing location. Thats when I realized Ethan was talking to me.

"Well, I really was looking for a guy roommate, but right now I'll take what I can get. So, like in the ad, the rent is decent, good location, the utilities are..."

"I'll take it!" I said, cutting him off mid sentence. He looked surprised, but agreed.

An hour later we had everything set up, paper work etc... All I had to do was move my things in. Once most of my boxes were in the apartment, I started to cut them open, Ethan left to get supplies, I guess that means food and things. We agreed that instead of having individual items of food and appliances that we would share things. Now that I finally had the apartment to myself, I started to look around. First the kitchen, everything was scarce, not much food or appliances. I moved into the living room, one blue couch, one medium sized tv and a decent looking love seat. I have to admit the place was nice, two bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, living room. It was bigger than others I've seen. I was trying to make it look like I wasn't snooping around. Ethan told me a few rules:

1. Clean up after yourself

2. Give 1 hours notice if you're bringing anyone home with you

3. Keep all noise to a minimal after 10pm

4. No outrageous parties

5. No going into Ethan's room. No matter what.

Well time to break the last rule. I quickly opened the door of Ethan's room and shut myself in. The room was clean, white walls, double bed, desk with huge stacks of paper, and something very interesting. A gun with a wallet of some sort beside it.
