Yea, he was pretty dead.
I have never seen someone die before my eyes. Honestly, I thought I was still dreaming. It really took a while for me to grasp what had just happened. Actually, I stood shocked by the entire thing and this construction worker had shook me out of it and asked if I was okay. I wasn't, but I lied.
When I got home, my mother tackled the the shit outta me.
"Baby! Are you okay?", she screamed in my friggin ear,
"Yea mom. I'm okay." I lied again.
"As soon as I heard the accident on the news, I immediately thought of you, we might need to get you a cell phone."
Was there a good thing to come of this?
"Can we talk later mom? I kinda want to just lie down."
"No problem honey, tonight I leave for work at six. I'm gonna take a nap, if anything's wrong, you let me know."
"Yes mam."
I climbed into bed, but I know I can't fall asleep in the day time. I actually didn't want to fall asleep ever again. I started thinking about how I could have started seeing the deaths of people. Why me? I'm still a kid. I began to hate whoever gave me this ability even though I didn't know who that was. But still, this is so disturbing. What if I ever saw someone like Mr. Butler, my science teacher dying or Pastor Burns or even--
"Yo." Kasai called to me as he threw a pack of burritos on my bed. "Muah. Is Barbara sleeping?"
Barbara was mom's first name. Her and Kasai didn't have the best of relationships. The two would go days without saying a thing to each other. I don't like when he calls her that though. The burritos were a little cold.
"Thanks. Yea she has work at six."
"You heard about that train thing"?
"I saw it."
As soon as I uttered those words, I saw a glimmer in Kasai's eyes, as if he were excited to hear about this terrible thing.
"Details bro, like how did his body just explode like that? And I mean why did he go for that suitcase? When the train is loud as fuck coming down the fucking tracks. He had to be a freaking idiot!"
"Hey man, I don't wan't to talk about it okay? He was on the phone, and the next thing you know he was hit by the train alright? I'm gonna warm these up."
I left the room with the burritos. I heard Kasai leave too. I mean, who in their right mind would be fascinated by someone dying? The people in this world really are something. As I heated up the burritos in the microwave I saw my mom come out of her room dressed. She was a flight attendant.
"That boy giving you junk to eat? You better have some of the vegetable in the fridge. You okay?"
"Mother, I'm fine."
"Okay, well I'll see you tomorrow."
Sometimes I wished she didn't have to leave so early. Kasai is okay and all and if I were in danger he would be there to help me, but mom was so calm and intelligent. Her presence kept me safe.
Those burritos were ready. I decided to watch something on Netflix to clear my head. My Netflix binge really did the trick for about an hour and a half. Then the thoughts came back. Then it hit me. The only way to prove if I actually have supernatural powers was to test if this thing happens again. This thought really soothed me. The thought that this would only be a one time thing. My mind was at ease again. Before i knew it, I was fast asleep.
