You know what I'm talking about. That feeling of dread, like something is right behind you just a fraction of an inch away from touching your hair. The same unsettling feeling that the sound of nails on a chalkboard or creaking wood sends to you. The same feeling of impending doom everyone feels when they see a crash about to happen but can't stop it. When this feeling comes to you, and it will, you might feel a slight freezing cold breeze next to your ear, even though there is no windows open and no fans on. This is the last breath of a dead man. You'll find something out of place, it is curious to learn more about us after all, only natural that it would look at your things. You'll feel goosebumps creep up your arms following the trail of unseen fingers long since dead. Maybe you will be one of the few who catch a glimpse of its gnarled figure, watching you while staying just out of sight. You will have the sudden carnal instinct to search your house, turn on your lights, grab a weapon, something to either put your mind at ease or to lull yourself into a false sense of security. You see you can't kill the thing that makes this feeling, so a weapon will do you no good. Turning on your lights won't stop it, for it is not limited to the shadows. And searching your house only makes you feel better until you lay back down on your bed and hear it down the hall. You see, this feeling isn't a 6th sense telling you something bad is coming. It isn't a warning. It is a statement. It is the bell toll telling you your time is up. It is saying -
"I am here."
Now stop pretending the wheezing is in your head and turn around. It has been waiting quite some time to see you again.
