(A/n: this hideout in the forest was inspired by the bunker in a one shot of CrissuCytus for Jake Park x reader in their Campfire Tales book, only this is a cabin and not a bunker.)
Chapter 2
Reader POV
I woke up on a bed. I tried to move, but my muscles were sore and the pain in my ankle from the bear trap wasn't helping either. There were people, but I didn't recognize the ones I knew. A man with dark hair and both sides of his head shaved, came over to me. He was handsome to look at, but seemed to be too bold and tough for his own good. He wore a gray shirt and a black jacket. "She's awake everyone!" He called out. An old man with white hair and a army uniform came to me. He seemed to have the personality of a leader, yet he wasn't optimistic. Years of war and age have wore him down, but I can tell, this old man wasn't going down without a fight. "Go Get Jake, David. He'd want to know she's awake now." The old man said in a gruff voice. "Whatever old man." The other man named David said in a tough New York accent as he left. "Hey Jake, your girlfriend woke up!" I heard him call out.
The old man looked at me. "Not bad for your first round of this game. My name is Bill." The old man said. "(Y/n)...where am I?" I asked him. "This is a place where Survivors stay. The chosen ones for the round are by the fire down the path from here." Bill explained. "I have never seen someone actually go up against a killer with an injury like that. You were brave." He added with a sort of proud smile. I can feel he is like the father of these people... He certainly gives it off. "Who is...out wherever?..." I asked him. "Nea, Laurie, Ace, and Dwight. Meg, Feng, Jake, David, Claudette, Quintin, and I are here. Plus you." He said. "Can you stand?" He asked me. "I don't know....let's find out." I said, sitting up. I threw my legs to the side and Bill gave me a glass of water. "This should help. Food is cooking. Jake was able to catch a few rabbits and birds for dinner. Hope you're not picky." Bill said, getting up with a small groan. I feel bad someone as old as him has to go through these challenges. I'm curious about this world. I don't have any memories of the world they're from. 'It feels like this world is home to me... I must find out things while I'm still here or in between games.' I thought to myself. I hadn't notice Jake entering the room. I just now noticed he kneeled down in front of me.
"Hey." He said, smiling a bit. I got a little shy at that small smile of his. "Hey...." I said, relieved he is alright. He doesn't look like he's limping anymore. "You're healed up..." I said a bit quietly. "The medkit we got helped us both out a lot...." he said, still looking over me. "I'm so glad you're okay." He added softly. My heartbeat quickened. Not like when we faced the Trapper. My face heated up a bit. "I'm glad you're alright too Jake." I said to him. "Usually when we get hooked, we get sacrificed. Those claws are the Entity's hands. We don't die here. We can't escape." Jake explained. "Thank you for coming back to rescue me....it's usually painful when the Entity brings us back to life." He added. "The Entity?" I asked, confused. I feel like I should know who that is... but I don't....
"It's the being that brought us into it's hell.... As far as I know, it's feeding off of us when we are in the battle for survival. Off of our fear..." Jake explained. I was shocked. "I know it's shocking. It targets indiscriminately. Mostly those who have distanced themselves from others, are rebels, or have relations with the Killers. No one actually knows what the Entity looks like. I doubt they ever will. I don't know how long we have been here. For all we know, it's probably been years...." Jake said looking away. "If it didn't have Killers and this being, I would've called it paradise since I was trying to get away from all the pressures of society and family." He added, crossing his arms.
"Do you have a past?" He asked me. I shook my head. "...I don't remember anything but my name and age...." I said hesitantly. Jake looked confused but suspicious. I was telling the truth. I do not know my past. Yet when the Entity is mentioned, it's like I want to say "That's my father you're talking about." But I kept quiet. Something wasn't right with me... I will get to the bottom of this though....! "No memories...? Did you hit your head before the Entity took you here?" He asked. I shrugged like I couldn't answer him. "Food is ready." Bill said, coming inside. "It will be awhile before the others return. Let's eat." Bill added. Jake helped me up. There was pain in my ankle and it winced and hissed. "Shit!" I hissed out in paint. "God that fucking hurts..." I said, holding onto Jake. "It's gonna take awhile for something that deep to heal." I heard Claudette say. "I can make some painkillers out of the herbs I've been growing." She added. "Let's eat first. I'm sure King and Min are getting a little impatient." Bill said, heading out the room. I followed with Jake helping me down the stairs. As I was seated at the large table in the house, I could smell the food. Seasoned to perfection and with veggies on the side as well. I saw Meg and she nodded to me in greeting. I nodded back to her. I was seated between Claudette and the guy Bill referred to as King. "So the names David King. Pleasure to meet someone as beautiful as you doll." He said with a flirtatious wink. My breath caught in my throat at that sudden use of words. I heard a voice cough and clear their throat to see it was Jake. He didn't look too happy....
