December 22nd, 1949

{Castiels POV}

Tick. Tick. Tick.

I reached my hand across the small nightstand and pressed my hand down on the shaking metal. My alarm clock was one of the newer models, it was a crisp blue metal, very pristine. It had a circular clock in the middle, and a little bell on the top that would rattle endlessly until you stopped it. The only flaw I've managed to find was that the bell shook the entire alarm clock itself, and if you let it go off too long it would sometimes fall of the nightstand.

I was still very tired, and I did not want to get out of bed, but I was meeting with my parents today, and they weren't going to skip out for the holidays. Christmas was in two days and my folks were very religious, so they wanted to celebrate. Though it was very rare i ever saw my parents throughout the holidays. My family was one of the richer among the city, my father made a living in manufacturing. When the war broke out he benefited grately. For the last few years he was known to manufactur metals and jewelry. Our name was well known around the town, the Novak's were one of those families everyone had heard of.

I got out of bed and slipped on my casual suit before heading out the door. The diner was only a few short blocks from my house, and the weather was nice, so I was going to walk to the diner. Besides, my car has been acting up lately anyways.

The moment I opened the door to the little diner the waitress raised her voice "Castiel! Long time no see, can I get you the usual?"

I smiled "Not today Jo, my folks are on their way over. I'll take a coffee for now"

"Yes sir, coffee it is" She always called me sir, but it was never in a serious way.

I took a seat at the bar section while I waited for my parents. The diner was nice and quaint, it was black and white with little splashes of red. The jukebox was always running and playing some sort of classic. I guess I never realized how much I had missed this place. It was familiar, and I liked that.

Jo was making conversation with a man dressed in a cheap suit, but I hardly noticed the suit, how could I when his eyes were a beautiful and vibrant green? I could only see the corner of his eyes, but wow, they were like an emerald. I hadn't even noticed I was staring until Jo's voice brought me back to reality

"So where have you been hiding out? Finally decided to come out of the woodwork?" She joked as she poured me some coffee

I looked away from the green eyed man and focused my attention on the blonde waitress "You know me Jo, I like my little lonely apartment" I smiled

She chuckled "hard to believe you're a spawn of the Novak's"

The green eyed man looked over when she mentioned that I was a Novak. He must have heard of us. I don't like the publicity, if it were up to me I'd move away to a small little town where no one knew who I was.

"Funny, my parents would tell you the same thing" I replied and she laughed. It was true, I was nothing like my family, and they knew it.

The rotary phone in the diner went off and Jo was the one to answer it. I could hear her in the distance.

"Hello? Yes he's here...Oh, again? Okay I'll let him know....No I'm sure he won't mind....goodbye Mrs. Novak"

Jo talked on the phone for a good few minutes, and I could only hear small parts of the conversation. She walked over to me with those empathetic eyes and that's when I realized what was said on the other phone line.
