Friday, July 27, 1990

It was summer and Rayan Lopez was getting ready to start kindergarten in September. Before he went back, his mom wanted to take him to all the fun things in New York. Coney Island, seeing the Statue of Liberty, and more. Today, his mom and dad were going to take him to Giovanni's Pizza Place. Rayan has never been there, and never heard of it, but today was going to be different.

"Rayan are you almost ready to go?" His mom yelled out to him. It was one in the afternoon and Rayan was upstairs in his room getting ready.

"Yes mom, I'm almost ready," he shouted back down to her. He looked in the mirror one last time. He had his hair in two braids, a green polo shirt with some khaki pants, and a pair of green Converse. Rayan smiled as he went downstairs to meet his mom and dad by the door. "So mommy where are we going?"

"We are going to Giovanni's Pizza Place," his mom answered. Even though Rayan never heard of the place, he still smiled because he heard the word pizza.

"Yay! Come on mommy and daddy let's go! I want pizza!" Rayan exclaimed happily as he was pulling both of his parents' hands to the door.

"Calm down sweetie. I have to lock the door. Drag your father to the car," Rayan's mom said laughing. Rayan's dad put a sarcastic look on his face, but then smiled down at his son who was still pulling his hand.

"Come on, daddy. I want pizza!" Rayan whined.

"Okay come on, kiddo," Rayan's dad said. He picked up his son and made their way to the car with Rayan's mom locking the door behind them. They all hopped into their 1991 Ford Explorer SUV 4WD and drove off.

The Lopez family arrived at Giovanni's ten minutes later. They lived in the suburbs part near Harlem, so it wasn't too far. The family all hopped out the car and walked inside. A waiter seated them and ordered their drinks. When the waiter was done the family got up to the pizza buffet to get what they wanted.

"Now be careful with the pizza, Rayan. Don't make it fall on the ground and don't get too many slices at one time," his mother warned him.

"Mommy don't worry, I'm a big boy," Rayan said showing off his small muscles. His mother laughed and let Rayan go get his pizza. Rayan got his plate and went towards a pepperoni and pizza dish. He got the slicer, but he had a hard time trying to get the pizza slice to his plate.

"You need help there?" A voice said to him. Rayan looked to his right to see a boy taller than him with an afro growing on his head. The boy smiled at him as he was carrying two slices of pizza on his plate.

"Uh, yeah I could use it," Rayan responded to him shyly. The afro boy took the slicer out of Rayan's hands and cut up a slice for him and put one on his plate.

"You want another one?" Afro boy asked.

"No, I'm good. Thank you. What's your name?" Rayan shyly asked Afro boy.

"You're welcome and the name's Craig, but you can call me Prodigy. What's yours?"

"Rayan."

"Cool. Well Rayan you need some more help?" Rayan nodded his head and the two boys went down the rest of the buffet with Prodigy getting the slices they wanted. When they were done they both went back to their parents on opposite sides of the room.

"Rayan who's your little friend over there?" His mom questioned.

"Mommy, his name is his Craig, but he likes to be called Prodigy," Rayan explained. His parents were glad Rayan made a new friend since he had a bright smile on his face. The same thing was happening on the other side of the room with Craig and his parents. One thing you could recognize was that both parents were happy their children made new friends.

Both families left out the restaurant at the same time. Rayan and Craig bumped into each other again only to say their goodbyes and head back off with their parents. If only they knew, this wouldn't be the last time they see each other.

So this is one of the back stories I had an idea about and what one person wanted. Weren't they so cute? Why can't we go back to these days before everything got out of control? Ha! We can't because then there would be no story right? Seriously, I get the feeling I ask too many questions so let me stop. But then I do always say I'm open for constructive criticism. Okay, let me stop for real. It's 1:14 am where I am so as I always say:
