Maze leaned with her back against the sink, dumbfounded. Well, this was obviously something new. Another thing to add to the list of unpleasant things a nearly human body brought with it. Throwing up was truly unpleasant, nothing she wished to repeat really. Yet her body had other plans for her as she ended up vomiting in the toilet every other morning. It was especially embarrassing when the small human caught her doing it. „Maze! You're sick!" Well, hooray little Mrs. obvious. Even though she herself didn't know how this was possible. She wiped her mouth before responding: „Yeah, looks like I am." „You need to go see a doctor!" „No, no small human, no need to worry, it's a onetime thing, I'm sure. I've probably just eaten something bad.", Maze answered with a fake smile. She flushed the toilet and ushered Trixie out of the bathroom. Like hell she was seeing one of these human doctors. Except Linda of course.

Just a few weeks later she found herself reconsidering. The vomiting hadn't stopped, she was getting cramps sometimes and her period was very late. Besides she also wondered if she should change her diet. Her lower belly was slightly swollen, and Maze had no idea what choice of food could have caused it. As a demon she could exclude the possibility of being pregnant, her inhumanity wouldn't allow it, besides a being without a soul couldn't give birth to a new soul, could it? So, as Trixie had already concluded, she had to be sick. And how was that possible? Anyway as "a modern demon in the 21st century", as humans would say, she knew how to help herself: kidnapping Chloe's laptop and researching her symptoms.

Just a few days later Maze's research had come to a standstill. She had taken many tests and compared her symptoms to quite a few illnesses, but none of them matched. Which only left her with the impossible option. Well, it couldn't hurt to confirm her knowledge and test that option too. It wasn't possible anyway, she told herself again. Maze begrudgingly strode into a pharmacy, searched, found and grabbed a pregnancy test and walked up to the cashier. She put it down in front of the young woman and pulled out her wallet. What a waste of money. Demons couldn't get pregnant. Could they? For the first time slight doubt stirred at the back of her mind. The symptoms did match, and her love life wasn't exactly rendering it impossible. „I guess congratulations are in order?", asked the cashier as she scanned the test and printed the receipt, widely smiling at Maze. „I'd rather commit murder or suicide if they were, depending on my mood.", Maze murmured a tad bit annoyed, sparing a short glance to the girl behind the counter. Just as she wanted to grab her receipt and change and dash right out of the door, the young woman slid another piece of paper over the counter. Maze wanted to snap at her, annoyed to no end and wanting to be left alone, but stopped herself when she read the headline, written on the thing. 'Abortion' stated the pamphlet in bright, bold letters. Maze looked up at the girl, who gave her a soft look. „... Thanks...", she mumbled and quickly left the pharmacy. If her fears were confirmed, she could already see herself standing in front of the nearest abortion clinic.

Back at home, Maze was waiting for the test to show her the result, impatiently tapping the sink with her fingernails in a fast rhythm. Linda would pick her up soon, the two wanted to spend their free time together around the city, so she needed to be done with this joke soon. Finally, time was up.

Maze slumped against the bathtub, paralyzed, staring into an abyss only she could see. Her hands were shaking, her head was spinning, and her eyes were watering, a pool of dread forming in her stomach. Get it together Mazikeen, you're a demon from hell, who's lived for eons, you've had worse, so cool down, you're just pregnant, no big deal. And with that the demon lost it.

Trixie couldn't remember that she had ever seen Maze cry. She stood there, frozen, in the door to the bathroom, feeling scared and unsure. Maze didn't cry, it just didn't fit into the picture, Maze was always strong and held her head high. Seeing her curled up by the bathtub, crying her eyes out was just wrong. Trixie had to do something, she had to cheer her Maze up, or at least ask what was wrong and try to help.
„Hey, Maze.", Trixie softly said, as she sat down beside her. Maze looked up, a bit dazed. „Hey.", she whispered, a weak smile forming on her lips. „Is that why you're so sad?", Trixie asked, pointing at the pregnancy test which was lying on the ground in the middle of the bathroom where Maze had dropped it. „Yeah. That's nothing you need to understand yet, little human.", Maze told Trixie. When the girl didn't look satisfied by her words she added: „ And it's nothing to worry about, really, I'm just overreacting." As if to prove her words, Maze wiped the tears of her face, stood up and laid the pregnancy test down on the sink. „Now why don't you go play in the living room, I'll join you shortly until your mom will be home soon.", Maze soothed the little girl and ushered her out of the bathroom.
