Summer Rain

Leaves lie on the sidewalk in last night's rain.

The wet pavement glitters,

Proof of another soaking lonely night.

Your sheets are cold.

You spent the night sitting on the front sidewalk,

Water running through your hair

Just like every night so far this June.

When will the rain stop?

Maybe it only rains when the sky is lonely,

In which case this is a sad summer for everyone.
