"I've always had this thing about fantasy. Fantasy games, books, shows. I just wanted to escape reality most of the time." I let my voice linger before adding, "I didn't realize I — had... have, depression." The woman who sat across from me adjusted her thin framed glasses by their right temple. She then scribbled something down on her clipboard.
I watched her silently, obviously she was writing something about what I said."Anything else?" The woman looked up at me.
"Actually, yes." I continued while attempting to find something interesting in the room to look at while I spoke, "I heard this is a thing that runs within the family. It's just running its course on me."
"Your family's history with depression could be the reason of why you feel as if you have it. Who told you that it runs within the family?" My brother. Mom. Even my aunt.
I quickly changed my mind. While slowly shaking my head I said, "Never mind." She'd ask me more questions about.. that. I wasn't very comfortable talking about my issues as good as I was listening to other's.Silence filled the room for a cool minute, sending a numb feeling inside my chest. The woman soon broke this silence, "I've noticed that you don't look people in the eye when you speak," She said, "Which is.. interesting." It was true that I didn't. I never did unless that person didn't have their eyes on me.
"Yeah." I awkwardly replied.
"Nor are you good at carrying conversations. Tell me, do you consider yourself popular at school?"
Not at all. "No." This was the first year I actually had friends in each class.
"Being a Junior and all, are you afraid of the Seniors in the school?"
I'd fight them if they tried me. I shook my head, grinning slightly, "No."
"This next question is a bit hard for some but I want you to answer with honesty." I nodded at her words.
"Have you ever been picked on? Like, bullied? Remember to answer with honestly, Aurora."
Hasn't everyone? "Yes." I didn't hesitate.
"Can you tell me how many times?"
I've only been talked about. "Like.. six."
My quick and blunt answers left her taken aback for a little while, the woman scribbled something down again before saying, "Have you told your parents?"
"Only once." I began to shift uncomfortably in my seat. Answering these questions brought back unpleasant memories I had.
"Did you tell your mother? Or your Father?"
"I told my mom." She didn't even do anything about it.
She nodded, "Okay." A warm smile stretched across her lips, "That's all for now, Aurora. Thank you for your time."
Your welcome. "You too." I quickly stood up from my seat and let myself out. Damnit, Aurora.I was greeted by my mother who waited for me in the lobby, when she saw me, she immediately smiled, "See? I told you it wasn't that bad. Just a lot of questions."
"It was a lot of questions." It wasn't, really.***
Night fell onto the sky, causing the white clouds to dim into a light grey color. Glowing stars stretched across the seemingly black sky like freckles, and there I lay inside my bed in my room just staring at the sight. Taking it all in. I always opened my blinds at night, and kept a glowing nightlight next to my bed for company. My eyelids grew heavy. I didn't like the dark for some reason. A seventeen year old girl scared of the dark.. tragic if you ask me. But whenever I slept in the dark.. shadows scared me, and when I did fall asleep I always had nightmares. My body unmovable, but.. in a comfortable way. Eyes half lidded as I still stare out my window. I let my mind take over, have a chance to do something without me always second guessing.
I opened my eyes up again, light poured into my.. somewhat clean room. The nightlight on my night stand still flashing it's colors.
Everything was normal until I heard a voice, "Please choose your class."
I didn't open my eyes, "Mom, go away." This feminine voice sounded exactly like her, but something was terribly off. This voice sounded robotic, very little emotion was carried with those four words. I threw the blankets off of me to find a lady standing near my bed.
It didn't take long for me to sit up and back away from her.
"Aurora Kline is it?"
"How do you know who I am? Who are you?" I was ready to grab a weapon. Anything to get her away from me. Grab the nightlight.
"Aurora, please choose your class or it will be randomly selected." The woman gracefully clasped her hands together at her chest and laced her fingers. Light from the window gave her skin a pale color. The bridge of her nose and her cheeks were freckled. Her eyes had an unusual bright red hue to them. While her hair being the weirdest thing about her, white. Snow white, to be exact.
The woman's unblinking gaze sent a chill down my spine but I stared back. It took a few seconds for the adrenaline inside me to ease itself.. due to that I had calmed down.
Realizing that she wasn't really a threat to me, I gave a heavy relieved sigh. Confusion still hung onto me though; It was unshakable at the moment. My eyes looked the woman over before questioning her, "What classes are you talking about?"
"Weapon classes, of course. There are many to choose from." She held one hand toward me. I watched her hand cautiously as it started to unusually glow at a fast pace. While this happened, the woman's red eyes never left me.
