Thank you for supporting my second, and maybe last, book. I don't have a lot on the other one, but maybe this one is different/special. ENJOY!!! :p

Lori crouched at the edge of the cliff, her wings folded neatly on her back. She was part bird hybrid. A bunch of them were watching the village to make sure all was well. Her friend, Celia, was part cheetah, and she had the ears and tail and she could run super fast.

Lori didn't really know the other hybrids well enough to say their name, species, and what their power was.

At last, the sun was starting to set, letting the group know that their shift was almost over. But before Lori could stand up and turn around, a screeching sound filled the air. She looked back and saw that orgs were attacking the village. She nodded to Celia and flew down off the cliff while pulling her sword out.

She led the attack as she took two orgs out. She twirled around and saw an org on top of a boy named Yuro, who was also a hybrid bird. Lori had a crush on him since she laid eyes on him and she was glad he was her species. She saw the org lift up a knife, but before he stabbed, she flew forward and grabbed his neck, making him scream in alarm.

She flew above the cliff, where there were sharp rocks at the bottom. She threw him down in. She landed as he fell and split apart, blood mixing with the usually clear water. She turned around and saw Yuro standing behind her. "Thanks," he said, smiling.

At first, she couldn't say anything, but she was soon able to say your welcome. He left, leaving one feather on the ground. She picked it up and hugged it close, putting it in her pocket. Celia came up to her, purring. "Guess you're making progress," she said, smirking.

Instead of hitting her, like she usually did, she just nodded. Celia couldn't help but start uncontrollably laughing. Lori snapped out of her weird daydream and hit her while she walked past. By now, the sun was finishing setting and the other shift of hybrids were taking their posts.

Celia and Lori went to their tree, where Lori had a big nest, and Celia just stretched across a branch. Lori flew to her nest, and Celia did what she did every night. Lori yawned and used her wings as a blanket.

She soon fell into a deep, restful sleep.

***$***;p

Lori awoke to growls of anger. She saw Celia crouching on the tree, watching a bunch of orgs creep into the village. Lori covered her mouth, hiding a scream. She wanted so badly to go into a mad rage and start destroying the creatures who dared disturb the village.

She shook out her wings, and spread them wide, waiting for the nod from Celia. She nodded. All at once, Lori flew out with her sword, and Celia ran with her ax, both slicing, and dicing. Soon, the orgs lay dead, and they were triumphant, and a little out of breath.

"That was scary for one reason. We're slowly being found and soon the humans will find us," Celia gasped. Lori nodded, not wanting to believe it. "What happened? There are more org bodies," a voice said.

Both of the girls turned around to see Yuro standing there, confused. Lori felt the need for her to explain. "Oh. I woke up and saw a bunch of orgs, and Celia was watching them. We went through them though, so there's nothing to worry about," she said.

His frowned. "There's everything to worry about. That means someone we don't want to find us, is getting closer to finding us!" he exclaimed. Lori looked down, ashamed. His face softened and he stepped closer. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be mean," he said.

She shook her head sadly. "I was making sure that chaos didn't erupt until we knew what to do," she whispered. He hugged, which made her really red. He let go a moment later. "I'm sorry I misunderstood you," he muttered.

She could just nod; her throat was dried out with surprise. He walked off, leaving her terribly confused. Celia came up to her a moment later, laughing her tail off. Lori glared at her. "What's so funny?" she snapped, starting back towards her tree.

Celia followed. "Your facial expression was hilarious when he hugged you!" she gasped for air. Lori smacked the back of her head with her wing and climbed back into her nest. "Why are you going back to sleep? We have to tell Pheniox," Celia stopped laughing.

Lori groaned and flew out, staying a foot above the ground. They raced to the castle, where their leader resided. Lori flew through the door and stopped, Celia, catching up with her. Phoenix was floating the air. She had beautiful, big red wings that flowed to orange, then yellow. Her hair was the same and flowed like the stream no matter if she stopped, or if there were no wind. It flowed down to her waist.

Her dress was long, with the night sky pasted on it. It went from blue to purple with a hint of pink and ended with black. She opened her eyes and saw the visitor. Her eyes were kind, emerald as her eye color.

"It's good to see you two. May I ask what brings you two so early?" she asked, floating to the ground, her hair floating behind her. Lori nodded. "Well, I'm sure you heard about the monsters that attacked yesterday, but this morning, Celia and I caught another group. We easily defeated them, but that could have been different," Lori explained.

Concern flashed across Pheniox's face. "What type of monsters?" she asked. "They were orgs," Lori replied. Phenoix looked down at the ground, a look of thoughtfulness. "Then I would definitely say that someone is slowly, but surely, making their way towards us," she muttered.

Lori felt fear strike through her, and she glanced at Celia, who looked as if she was thinking the same thing. Celia was waving her tail around to keep herself calm, and every now and then, she would grab the end of it and twist before letting it go again.

Lori felt her wings flutter at the end nervously. She watched Pheniox suddenly look up. "We need to be doubly prepared. I'm sorry to both of you, but we are doing full shifts. No matter if it's time for the next shift, you must stay where you are and be alert," she said.

Lori nodded and left, going to her post up top the cliff. She sat down, using her wings as a cloak. Celia soon came out also, going to her post. Soon night fell, and Lori soon got sleepy, and she couldn't stop zoning out. The last time she zoned out, almost cost her her life.

Before she could react, a big bright ball of magic slammed into her, causing her to start falling. The last thing she heard was Celia screaming her name before she blacked out.

***********

Lori awoke, hearing Celia's voice. "Oh, she's awake!" Celia said, rushing over. "W-what happened?" Lori asked, her voice small. She felt the need to curl up and cry, never leaving the comfort of her wings.

"You were hit by magic. One that made you damage your brain enough that you are now quite sensitive and small, in a mental measure," Celia explained. Lori sat up, her wings tucked. "When you are well enough to leave your bed, we have a hybrid of your species to take care of you always," she said. "In fact, I'll bring him in now," she added.

She went out for a moment before coming back in with someone following her. It was the last person she ever expected to sign up for the job.

DUN DUN DUHHHHHN!! This was the perfect cliffhanger. Enjoy! (I won't leave you writhing for too long ma peeps)
