I’m beautiful
Colorful
Full of life
You’ll find my promise in the sky
Poets have written songs
Pledged their love in sonnets
Even more have yearned for me
I’m beautiful
Colorful
Full of life
I’ve embraced strangers
Protected the innocent
Hidden them in mountains
Along rivers
I’ve watched children play
In the woods, along streams
Sheltered them from the sun
Even they say
I’m beautiful, colorful
I’ve fed and clothed God’s own
I’ve seen dark days
And waited through storms
Tried to protect all I could
I’ve often looked above
For His reassurance
Love and peace
In times of need
I’ve seen many wars
But I know far and wide is His reach
You can see God in me
I reflect His majesty
I do not fear the sea
The waves do not bother me
When it rages, I remember
I stand in patience
Many have stood in awe of me
Unable to comprehend
When you think you’ve figured me out
You haven’t
When you think you know me
You don’t
I’ve baffled scholars
Made them doubt themselves
I’ve laughed with children
Inspired their imaginations
They grow up but they never forget
I’ve stopped travelers in their tracks
Or shown them the beaten path
Explorers in search
Have been turned back
I have many names
I know every language
But speak only one
I’m stronger than the wind
More gentle than a touch
I’ve been burned
And abandoned
Renewed and restored
I cannot be destroyed
Without His word
History tells my story
Science tries to define
Literature continues to capture
My way of life
I’m rarely silent but often quiet
Many leave only to return
I’ve been longed for
And fought for
Bled and died for
I was nearly lost
Yet I remain
I’ve stood the test of time
You’ll find my promise in the rain
From dust you are
To me you return
I’m beautiful, I’m home
