In front of Isabelle is a book called 'The Open Door.' Never had she read a book after the death of her dearest mother, thus, darkness filled her mind and soul prevented her from doing so. But today, she decided to leave the darkness and have a bright new start.

"Her search for knowledge was like a living inside her, never giving her any peace."

The line had struck her and brought her to tears. Isabelle envied the protagonist by the fact that the reason of her stormy life is the search for knowledge, not a tragedy. After a few minutes, the child realized her self-pity and was ashamed of it, so she decided to stop. Her woes and anger still remained, yet she still stands strong.

'Isabelle! It's time for snacks!' Mr. Wallace called.

'Okay!' Isabelle replied and ran downstairs.

The girl was caught by surprise when she saw a lady with a boy about her age. There was a glimpse of confusion in her eyes that wants a long explanation. Still she smiled greeted the guests politely, 'Good afternoon.'

'Hi dear, how are you?' the lady asked.

'I'm fine, miss.'

'Isabelle, this is Ms. Chandler.' He said, and added, 'soon to be your mother.'

'What..?' Isabelle was dumbstruck by the sudden news.

'We'll be married next week! Oh and before I forget, this is your soon-to-be brother, John!' he stated with excitement.

Isabelle was not able to take all of the surprise since it all happened so fast. But the girl managed to ask, 'Mum just died a year ago, and now you're getting married?' her voice cracked. Mr. Wallace was astounded by his daughter's question, yet he answered with a straight face, 'Yes. Yes I will.'

'How could you?' she shed into tears and ran upstairs.

Knock knock

'May I come in?' It was a voice of a boy. Isabelle opened the door and asked coldly, 'What do you want?'

'Hi! I am John! I am here to apologize on behalf of my—' The girl cut him off by shutting the door. Yet the boy knocked again.

'What?!' the girl asked irritated.

'Can we talk as friends?' he plead.

'This boy won't give up eh?' she thought.

'Fine...' she sighed. However, John hugged her and said, 'Thank you new friend.' Isabelle then hugged back. 'You're always welcome.'

Little do they know, Mr. Wallace was listening the whole time while smiling to himself.

/thump thump/ Then their heartbeat moved in synchronization.
