There was once a girl named Melody that had a deadly tumor. The doctors told her that she was going to die, however there still was still hope she could do a special surgery and survive the tumor. But if she does do this surgery, she would lose her memory and there was little to no chance to recover them.

When she told her best friend, Joshua, he told her that he would talk to the doctors with her family so they could plan to surgery. She pulled on his arm when he was about to leave.

"I'm... not going to do the surgery." Melody said with some hesitation.

Joshua looked at her with a shocked face. "But then you'll die!" He said out, his voice breaking just the slightest bit.

Melody hesitated some more before replying. "I would rather die than forget everything I have don't with you, with my life, and anything else."

"But don't you see? If you die... I'll lose you, I can't lose you. I love you! What about your family? They love you till the end of the world." He said back to her.

She had tears in her eyes now. "I love you, too. I have loved you ever since we meet in pre-school."

"Then please do the surgery." Joshua plead.

"But if I do the surgery, I'll wake up and not remember who you are. I would never no of the memories we had or anything. I would rather die than forget about us." She said, tears now streaming down her cheek without control.

Joshua wiped away the tears. "I will always be here and I'll never leave you side. I had promised that since pre-school and have I broken that promise once?" He asked.

"No." She sniffed.

"Then what makes you think that I will be breaking that promise now?"

The next day, Melody, Joshua and her family were at the hospital. When the doctors came to take Melody in for surgery, Joshua put a locket around her neck. Inside the locket was a picture of them when they were in pre-school and a picture of them now. In the front, I will always be there for you, was engraved on it. "Take this with you, so even in surgery, I can be there with you."

The doctors took her away. Melody walked with her head down, silently crying, afraid of the future.

Joshua waited outside nervously while they were doing the surgery. When they surgery was done, the doctors took her to a room. She was still  unconscious from the surgery so Joshua stayed with her all night.

Melody woke up the next morning. She doesn't seem to remember anything, or how she even got into a hospital bed. She looked to the left to see a stranger sleeping.

"Um, excuse me, sir?" She said while shaking him.

Joshua woke up with a jerk. That voice, he knew that voice anywhere. "You woke up! I'm so glad you're awake." He said excitedly.

Melody tilted her head and stared at him. She had no idea who this was and why he was in the same room as her. Joshua seeing the look on her face answered the question.

"I'm your boyfriend." He said pointing to himself.

She shook her head in disbelief. "You're not my boyfriend. I don't have any boyfriends. So could you please leave?" She said trying to be polite.

"No, really, I am your boyfriend. We were best friends since pre-school when I confessed my love to you two days ago." Joshua said, trying to make her believe him.

"Please just leave."

"I-" Melody cut Joshua off.

"Leave!" She yelled as she pointed to the door.

His heart just got torn to a million pieces. She really doesn't remember him. Slowly and stiffly, he got up from his chair and left the room in a hurry. Tears streaming down his face, without control.

A few months later, Melody went back to school. She still had wore the locket, but hasn't opened it yet. Joshua saw her walking in the hallway and saw her with the locket on. He waved at her and called her name.

"Melody!" He said with hope, if she's wearing that locket she must have remembered him.

Melody looked at him before looking away and continued walking the other direction without anymore eye contact. His heart was once again torn to billion pieces this time.

"I guess not." He said as he turned away. "I still love you, but now, you don't need me anymore." Tears threatened to spill but this time he held them in.

~Five Years Later~

Melody has completely forgotten about the surgery and tonight she was going out on a date with her husband. She was looking through her jewelry box looking for the perfect necklace to match her dress. On necklace dropped out of the box and onto the floor. By the impact, the necklace opened up. She carefully picked it up and looked at the necklace carefully. On the outside word were engraved in beautiful cursive writing. It read, I will always be there for you. Her husband never gave her this necklace, she knew. She opened up the locket to she two pictures. One was a picture of little a boy and a girl standing next to each other. She realized that the girl looked like herself. The other picture was her and she was on the back of some boy. They were smiling and seem like they were having a great time. She looked more closely at him and and the back of her mind it just snapped.

"Joshua." She finally said.
