Sam healed up rather well and got back to school within a week.
Which had it's ups and downs.
Dean hadn't been to school in a week, for he was at home taking care of Sam. He was too afraid to leave his brother there alone while he was hurt.
"So, are you and Winchester, like, together?" Gabriel asked one day at lunch. His friends hadn't really asked about the whole Dean thing, but Cas could tell they were getting agitated.
"Yeah," Cas said. Zach snorted.
"Is there a problem?" Chuck asked, taking a sip from his juice box. God, he was such a child sometimes.
"Yeah," Zach said. "It's disgusting."
"What is?" Cas asked.
"You and Winchester!" Zach exclaimed.
"Uhh, mind telling me how?" Gabe asked. Zach rolled his eyes.
"It's unnatural. Men are supposed to be with women and women are supposed to be with men," Zach explained. "Homosexuals are unnatural and unholy."
"Well, have you ever taken into consideration that there are other religions apart from Christianity?" Chuck questioned.
"Of course I have, but this is a Christian based country!" Zach exclaimed. Gabe rolled his eyes.
"Look, man, if you're going to be a homophobic dick, then just get out, okay?" He said. Zach blinked at him.
"Is that not how you see things?" He asked. Gabe laughed.
"Hell, no!" He said, raising his eyebrows. "Unlike you, I'm decent enough to realize that people are different, and that the human race was created based on the idea of free will. We have the capability to choose what we do. And that includes choosing who we love. Who the hell cares if they're male or female?"
"I do," Zach whined.
"Then go bitch about it to somebody who cares," Chuck spat coldly. It surprised Cas, who looked at him in admiration. Zach glanced around at them for a moment, then stood up, gathering his things. When he was about five steps away, Gabe cupped his hands around his mouth.
"Dick bag!" He shouted. Zach stopped in his tracks, turned around slowly and smiled.
"You are what you eat," he said loud enough for them to hear him.
"Hypocrite!" Gabe shouted back. Zach rolled his eyes, flipped them off, and left the cafeteria.
"Welp, he's a douche," Chuck mumbled.
"A mega douche," Gabe agreed.
"Thank you both," Cas said gratefully. "For being so supportive of me."
"That's what friends do, isn't it?" Gabe asked. Cas smiled at him.
----
Dean and Cas had stopped going to the grill after school. Instead, they picked up Sam and went over to the Winchester's house.
Sam was still coming home with a new bruise every day.
Dean stopped pointing them out.
"I swear, I am going to rip that kid apart," Dean fumed one evening. Sam was in the shower. Dean and Cas were in the kitchen.
"We'll figure something out, Dean," he reassured him. Dean started to cry.
"Dammit!" He shouted, slamming his hand down on the countertop. "It's getting worse, Cas, and I can't do a goddamn thing about it!"
