"he hates me," bill uris said aloud, mindlessly tapping on the windowpane in front of him. "he walks past me everyday coming back from work, ignoring my presence. have the stars unaligned?" he sighed, pushing himself off the corduroy couch, letting go of the pillow he was squeezing the life out of. the melancholy newlywed dragged his feet across the floor to the neighboring mantle, showcasing the many photo frames of him and his husband cheerfully smiling. he picked one up, blowing the dust off of it. usually, stan would dust the house in every nook and cranny, but he hasn't been himself lately. bill smiled at the picture, his cheeks sticky from layers of dried tears. his happy moment was soon abruptly cut short from the slam of a heavy door echoing throughout the house. bill faked a smile, but of course was ignored by stan's briefcase clunking on the dining table, him tossing it out of sight before storming off to somewhere else. bill tried not to make a sound, yet the floorboards creaked under a simple shift of one leg to the other. stan whipped around, catching bill weeping by the fireplace, clutching a wedding photo. "what the hell are you doing?" he harshly spat out, causing the frail boy across from him jump.
"i was j-just, uh," bill grew out of his childhood stutter, but it always came through when he was nervous, or scared. right now he was both. "i'm holding onto wh-wh-what was once was mine."
stan's heavy footsteps startled bill even more. "what the fuck is wrong with you?" he shouted louder than his last outburst.
"leave me alone! ignore me like you d-do every other f-f-fucking day!" bill yelled back, the tension in the room growing more with every breath. stan was about to shoot back a degrading response, but before he could even speak a word, his miserable husband ran past him and up the stairs. stan
walked to the mantle, seeing the photo frame bill had touched. "tsk. dusty." he hissed before looking up at the staircase above him.
