Life teaches us a lot of lessons through hardships then, it's on us to never forget those lessons and try our best to live our life without any regrets. But that's not easy. We keep making new mistakes and keep regretting. We think we can plan our lives, but that's not in our hands to make plans. Plans are meant to be altered and twisted. I thought, "now I am living my life with no more mistakes and regrets" only to realize that that's not it. The chapters of pain had just started. There is more that I don't know.

After returning from lunch with a happy Nolan and a satisfied friend the fire alarm broke out. John came out of his office with his wife and she took Nolan from my hands. John gave us necessary orders and the fire team made its way to the house which was at fifteen minutes drives. The siren of the fire truck sent shivers and fear to everybody passing by. I was also nervous owing to the information we received by the police that a mother and her baby were trapped inside. We reached the location and astounded at the sight of the house. It was a double story house and it was burning with intensity. It was on fire from all sides. Everything was on fire; the doors, windows, floor and roof. Fire was coming out of the house through various openings. The flames burned deep red and amber, almost livid purple. It smelled like a heated soldering iron or as if some wires and rubber was being burnt. The inhabitants of the area were watching this scene with a good hundred feet distance.

"There is nothing inside likely to survive this fire," Max thought out loud. I looked at him worried about the mother and her baby. Then I averted my eyes back to the house. It was too hot and felt my eyebrows burn.

"Boys! We must hurry before the fire gets out of control!", John shouted. We were given instructions and then we proceeded to our tasks. Max and I were ordered to evacuate the mother and her baby. Others firefighters started spraying water at the entrance to smother the flames so that Max and I could go inside. Once we were in we were followed by two other firefighters with water tube in their hands and they started spraying it everywhere. Max and I made for the stairs and were met with a dreadful sight. It was like we were in hell. Fire on the wall, doors, and roof.

"we had better hurry" I shouted, " you go over to that door and I to the other" I pointed to two adjacent doors.

"Wait Adam!" he stopped me by grabbing my arm. "listen to cry"

I paid attention to the air and even though it was really difficult to hear voices, I certainly did hear a baby's cry. It was not coming from either door. It was coming from behind us. We turned to look at the door which was being devoured by fire. I nodded to Max and ran to that door. It was not as wide as the other two. We kicked at the door and in three kicks it was open and we looked inside and were dumbfounded at the sight; The mother was lying on the floor on her stomach and the blood was coming out of her head; the baby was sitting beside her and crying. The washroom hadn't got the fire yet, except the door. We heard a sound of the fire extinguisher from behind us. The door was not anymore on fire. I went to the lying body and I turned it over. I was beyond shocked to see her. I shook my head and looked at the kid, it was a boy not more than nine months. Max told me to take the kid and he, along with Stuart, the one who extinguished door's fire, would carry the woman. I nodded and took the baby and hid him underneath my jacket and ran outside. Once we had evacuated, the family was handed to the doctors. I went to help my fellows with fire. In two hours we were successful. Everybody was satisfied. John was happy with Max and I. But I was worried for her. There were so many questions. I was leaning against the fire truck when I heard Max, " are you thinking what I am thinking"

"Are you thinking the same thing I am thinking" I said, looking at him to my right.

He looked at me. I was assured.

"What you both think is right" John said coming out of nowhere.

" I'd like to hear what you have got to say John" I said.

" The police is going to start the investigation once she wakes up. They have taken both to the hospital".

"which hospital?" I asked.
